Constructing a team is a big part of most Pokemon games. However, in the early game, you don’t have access to all the choices you might want to use. So you have to select Pokemon that will either complement each other or are powerful early on. So, in this article, we will pick the Pokemon that you should consider putting on your early game team in your Legends Z-A playthrough.

As a cut-off point, we will consider Pokemon under level 25 as part of the early game. What this means is that any Pokemon that is around that level will be applicable for this team. For instance, Tepig evolves into Pignite at Level 17, making its second stage a valid choice. However, Emboar is only available after Level 36. So it cannot be considered for the team.

Best Early Game Team for Pokemon Legends Z-A

These are the Pokemon that you should consider using on your early game playthrough team in Pokemon Legends Z-A:

  • Your starter (Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile)
  • Gyarados
  • Honedge
  • Flaffy
  • Pidgeotto
  • Floette

1) Your Starter (Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile)

More likely than not, you will rely on your starter to face all the challenges in Legends Z-A. While your choice of starter can vary, all of them have decent stats to work with than most of the Pokemon you will catch. And they will evolve before Level 20, giving you a decent Pokemon for the early stage of the game.

2) Gyarados

Gyarados is one of the best Pokemon of all time. And while you have to carry around a weak Magikarp until Level 20, this isn’t an issue given how the modern Exp. Share works. Once it evolves, you have a devastating physical attacker that is worth using even if you picked Totodile as a starter. And later on, you’ll get access to its Mega Evolution.

3) Honedge

Honedge is here mainly for its typing. Its dual typing of Steel/Ghost gives it three immunities (Normal, Fighting, and Poison) and nine resistances (Bug, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Rock, and Steel). This makes it an amazing switch into early game Pokemon, which tend to be Normal, Bug, and Flying types. And you will later get an Aegislash on, so it’s worth training for later.

4) Flaffy

Flaffy is a useful Electric-type to have. As a second Stage, it has decent bulk and offenses, making it a relatively better pick than most other Electrics you might get at that point. It also has utility moves in Thunder Wave and Confuse Ray, so it can act as a support. And you will get an Ampharos at Level 30 which can Mega Evolve later.

5) Pidgeotto

The Kanto early bird may seem like an odd choice considering that Fletchling, and by extension Fletchinder, is also in this game. However, as a Normal and Flying type, it has two useful immunities to Ghost and Ground. This makes it a useful switch-in and one worth raising. Like Gyarados and Ampharos, you also get a Mega for Pidgeot.

6) Floette

Finally, the Fairy type of the team. While Clefable and Sylveon are choices, getting them is usually more difficult. Making Floette, evolved from Flabebe at Level 19, is the best choice for the Fairy-type slot on your team. It has good Special bulk and decent offenses. And its final form, Florges, is a better Pokemon that most players realize.
