Once the multiplayer scene becomes more active and a meta develops in Pokemon Legends Z-A, these Pokemon are likely to be banned.

Unlike its predecessor Pokemon Legends Arceus, Legends Z-A will have online multiplayer features. This means there will be a competitive scene with a meta developing over time. However, there will always be some Pokemon that are going to be more overpowered than others. So in this article we will take a look at which of the Pokemon present in Legends Z-A’s Pokedex are likely to be banned.

Pokemon Likely To Be Banned From Legends Z-A’s Competitive Scene

These Pokemon are most likely going to be overpowered for the regular meta to handle:

  • Mega Metagross
  • Mega Mewtwo X and Y
  • Xerneas
  • Yveltal
  • Zygarde

1) Mega Metagross

While most Megas are overly dependent on their Abilities, Mega Metagross was overpowered for a different reason. In Generation 7, Megas would gain their new stats immediately on the turn they Mega Evolved. For Metagross, what pushed it over the edge has to be its Speed going from a below-average 70 to a stellar 110. This was enough for Mega Metagross to outspeed and KO most of the threats it would face. If the stat upgrade from Generation 7 exists, Mega Metagross faces a ban from regular play again.

2) Mega Mewtwo X and Y

This one is no surprise. One of the issues surrounding Mewtwo is that until it Mega evolves, you do not know which Mega you are facing. This matters because Mega Mewtwo X is a physical attacker, while Mega Mewtwo Y is a special attacker. As such, the counters for them are very different.

3) Xerneas

As a Box Art Legendary, Xerneas already has extremely high stats. Combine that with its Fairy typing and access to its signature move Geomancy (which gives a +2 boost to its Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed), and Xerneas obliterates everything in its path. Yes, Geomancy’s two-turn requirement makes it hard to use in Singles (as Double Battles will not be in Legends Z-A). But as the Power herb is still available in the game’s code to remove the second turn once, using Geomancy will not be an issue.

4) Yveltal

Like Xerneas, Yveltal is also a Box Art Legendary. This means it has great stats, an amazing offensive typing in Dark/Flying, and a movepool to make it work. Its signature move Oblivion Wing has a base power of only 80, but restores Yveltal’s health by 75% on using it. This puts Yveltal’s damage output beyond most Pokemon’s ability to take.

5) Zygarde

10% and 50% Zygarde forms have actually seen some play in regular formats. However, 50% Zygarde had been banned eventually, as Thousand Arrows could be spammed against all Pokemon. Even against Flying-types who would usually be immune to Ground-type attacks. So 50% might not be allowed to take part in regular play for long. And if 50% gets banned, there’s no way that 100% with its better stats will be allowed to remain either.
