After reaching Rank V in the Battle Royale, the plot of Pokemon Legends Z-A shifts away from the battles for a bit. As indicated in the demo, you will have to chase Zygarde 10%. Once you reach Rank V, a Zygarde 10% will show up. With the help of Emma, one of the returning characters from Pokemon X and Y, you will have to follow it around. Eventually it will lead you to a rooftop where you will see an Absol. It appears to be in pain and struggling to stay on its feet. Suddenly a pink glow of energy engulfs it, leading to it undergoing Mega Evolution.
Usually, Mega Evolution only takes place when the bonds between a trainer and a Pokemon are strong enough to help them push beyond their limits. However, this Absol is wild, with no trainer in sight. This is the first instance of Rogue Mega Evolution that you will face in this game.
Defeat the Rogue Mega Absol
Luckily AZ, who is also back from Pokemon X and Y, comes to your rescue with his Lucario. He hands you your Mega Bracelet and lets you Mega Evolve his Lucario. This is a callback to how you get your first Mega Evolution in Pokemon X and Y, when Korrina’s Lucario joins your party. This fight is basically a tutorial for how to tackle Rogue Mega Evolutions.
Once you defeat the Rogue Mega Absol, it decides to join you out of gratitude. This gives you your own Mega Evolution to use against later Rogue Mega Evolutions. Emma notes that there have been instances of wild Pokemon going Mega like this, with the Pokemon seemingly in pain. She also notes that a “certain section” is closely monitoring these Rogue Mega Evolutions.
