In this article, discover how Rotom Wash, one of the former greats of Pokemon VGC, reached the finals of the Belo Horizonte Regional.

Rotom Wash was once a powerful force in the Pokemon VGC scene. It’s even a former World Champion as it won the 2012 Pokemon VGC World Championships as part of Ray Rizzo’s team. While it has since been power crept out of the meta, Rotom Wash shot into the spotlight once again as part of Victor Vieira’s runner-up team at the Belo Horizonte Regional. Making it stand out similar to Stefan Mott’s Scyther at the Monterray Regional. So let’s take a look at how this old Pokemon did so well and if it used any new tricks to do it.
Pokemon VGC: Victor Vieira’s Team For the Belo Horizonte Regional

Victor’s team was mostly standard Regulation H VGC picks like Incineroar, Ursaluna, Gholdengo, and Porygon 2. He does have the slightly unorthodox Flamigo, but he mentions on X that it was a standout. Here are the roles each of the main members of his team played:
- Incineroar serves as a support with Intimidate to lower the opponent’s Attack on switching. Its moveset also has moves like Knock Off to remove items, Parting Shot to pivot out while dropping stats, and Fake Out for priority flinching.
- Ursaluna serves as a powerful physical attacker that outspeeds most other Pokemon in Trick Room.
- Porygon 2 is the Trick Room setter of the team. It also becomes a bulky wall thanks to its held Eviolite and access to Recover.
- Gholdengo is the main special attacker of the team, setting up with Nasty Plot and spamming its STABs.
- Flamigo provides Tailwind support. Thanks to its Scrappy ability, its STABs hit hard physically.
Pokemon VGC: Victor Vieira’s Rotom Wash Build

Victor went with an old-school Choice Scarf set for his Rotom Wash. Hydro Pump is the Water-type STAB for this washing machine, while Trick is useful for locking an opponent into a single move. As for his Electric-moves he went with two of them. Volt Switch makes sense, as it allows Rotom to switch out with ease. However, instead of going with Thunderbolt as the main Electric-type STAB, he chose to use Electroweb instead.
In Doubles, Electroweb hits both opposing Pokemon on the other side of the field. Additionally, if it connects, it is guaranteed to drop the Speed stat. This makes it a useful utility move as well.
