A Break Time Battle in Pokemon Legends Z-A is the fourth side quest in the game. However, to accept and complete this quest, you’ll have to make quite a bit of progress in the game’s main missions as well. In A Break Time Battle, you’ll meet an NPC who challenges you to a Pokemon duel. Defeating his squad of Pokemon is well worth doing, since it earns you plenty of rewards and unlocks a brand new location. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into how you can unlock the quest and complete it.
How To Begin A Break Time Battle in Pokemon Legends Z-A
As we mentioned earlier, this side quest becomes available only after you’ve made some main mission progression. Specifically, you’ll need to start Reaching Rank X, which is Main Mission 06. Beginning the mission gives you access to a bunch of side quest content, one of which is A Break Time Battle. Next, head west from Wild Zone 3 to spot an NPC standing next to a deactivated Holovator. Alternatively, you can fast travel here if you’ve been to the area before.
Regardless of how you get there, speak with the NPC here, named Sommi. He’ll challenge you to a duel, and choosing to accept his proposition will trigger the side quest.

How To Complete A Break Time Battle in Pokemon Legends Z-A
The main objective here is to defeat Sommi’s team of Pokemon with your own. He will use Emolga, Pidgey, and Budew. They aren’t tricky to beat, especially if you have a levelled up team yourself. Also, make sure to choose Pokemon that aren’t weak to any of the three that Sommi uses. One great option for this battle is to opt for Heracross. You get this one during Side Mission 02, A Use for an Evolution Stone. We say this despite knowing about Heracross’s 4x weakness to flying type Pokemon.
The Emolga, Pidgey, and Budew that Sommi uses are all around level 8 or 9. If you’ve levelled up your Heracross consistently since you got it, the Pokemon should be at a much higher level by this point. It should be powerful enough to one shot most of its three opponents here.
After defeating all of the Pokemon that Sommi throws at you, speak to the worker to end the quest.
Rewards For Completing A Break Time Battle
You will receive the following rewards once the quest is complete:
- 1,200 Poke Dollars
- 3x Exp. Candy S
- 1x Fresh Water
However, apart from these rewards, completing the side quest will also cause Sommi to unlock the Holovator next to him. Now, you can use it to travel to a new rooftops location. You can find a bunch of Pokemon there, along with items for you to grab.
