The battle in The Kakuna Master side quest is straightforward but demands smart move choices. Montee’s team includes:
- Three Kakuna (Levels 8–9)
- One Beedrill (Level 11)
You will notice that his Kakuna often uses Iron Defense to stack their Defense stats. Physical moves won’t get you far here. Instead, go for Special Attacks that bypass the raised Defense.
A strong choice here is Fletchinder, which evolves from Fletchling found early in Wild Zone 1. Its Fire/Flying typing works perfectly, hitting Kakuna for super effective damage while avoiding Poison-based retaliation. Moves like Ember or Peck will handle the early phase efficiently.
When Beedrill enters, switch to moves that exploit its Bug/Poison weakness; Flying or Fire attacks again work best. Try to finish the battle quickly before Beedrill builds up offensive pressure.
If your Pokemon are under-leveled, status moves such as Sleep Powder or Thunder Wave can slow Montee down. Having a few Potions or Antidotes will help sustain you through the longer exchanges.

Winning this side quest rewards you with 700 Poke Dollars, Silver Powder, and Net Balls. The money helps replenish your supply stock, while the Silver Powder is a handy held item that boosts Bug-type move damage.
