In this article, we will go over the online PvP battling mechanics in Pokemon Legends Z-A and how to use them.

In Pokemon Legends Z-A, the main form of PvP is ranked battles in the Z-A Battle Club. These are battle royales that take place online and require you to reach certain ranks to get rewards like the Greninjite. So in this guide, we will go over the basics of PvP and what you need to do to participate.
Basics of PvP in Pokemon Legends Z-A

To take part in ranked battles, open the Main Menu, select Link Play, and then choose Ranked Battles. These are the basic points of the Z-A Battle Club:
- You bring three Pokemon of your choice. These Pokemon, a.k.a. your Battle Team, cannot be from your current party and need to be placed in a separate box.
- Each battle has a three-minute time limit.
- If one of your Pokemon faints during battle, you return to your starting point. All of your team is recovered, and you rejoin the fight.
- Pokemon can be switched out only three times before one of them is knocked out. Once that happens and you re-enter the battle, this limit resets.
- Your Pokemon can hold Mega Stones. However, only one of them can Mega Evolve each battle.
Winning in Ranked Battles
After the time limit ends, all four players will get ranks from first place to fourth. These rankings depend on the number of Pokemon you knocked out in the match. You earn points based on your ranking within the match and can earn extra points by performing the following actions:
- Dealt first attack
- Dealt last attack
- First to Mega Evolve
- First to claim an item
- Scatter attacker
- Supereffective attacker
- Mega Evolution destroyer
- Most active attacker
- Fresh opponent hunter
- Mega-Evolving master
- Flawless survivor
- [Number]-Pokemon defeater
All your points are tallied up and allow you to rise higher in the rankings, starting from Z all the way to A. Additionally, you do not drop in ranking throughout a season.
The rewards for these include Mega Stones (like those for the Kalos starters), Exp. Candies, and more.
What Are Glowing Items?

On the battlefield, you will notice glowing items scattered across the area. Picking these up provides different boosts to your Pokemon.
- Green: Restores HP
- Red: Temporarily boosts Attack and Special Attack of your Battle Team
- Blue: Temporarily boosts Defense and Special Defense of your Battle Team
- Mega Power: Earn the power to Mega Evolve
Keep in mind that you will need an internet connection and a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access these features.
