The Phantasmal Flames expansion is the next part of the Mega Evolution set of the Pokemon TCG. However, the cards from this expansion are already out in Japan, and some of them have started to shape the meta. So, in this article, let’s take a look at some of the Pokemon cards that will be released as part of the Phantasmal Flames expansion, which can be meta-defining.

5 Pokemon Cards From Phantasmal Flames That Can Shape the Pokemon TCG Meta

These Pokemon cards from the Phantasmal Flames expansion show a lot of potential:

    1) Flygon

There’s a new Flygon card in the Phantasmal Flames of the Pokemon TCG. What makes it stand out is its ability, Sandy Flapping. When Flygon is played as well as when it’s knocked out, this Ability can be used to discard two cards from the top of the opponent’s deck. This makes this Pokemon a useful choice for mill decks like Great Tusk.

    2) Rotom Ex

Unlike the previous expansion, there are quite a few non-Mega Pokemon ex in the Phantasmal Flames expansion of the Pokemon TCG. Rotom ex is one of them, whose Special Art Rare is one of the chase cards of this expansion. As for why this card is here, its Ability Multi Adapter has the potential to be quite devastating. When this card is in play, any card with Rotom in their name can attach two Tools to itself.

This card can be played with the Rotom form cards from the Destined Rivals, each of whom has the move Gadget Show. This move deals 30 damage for each Pokemon Tool attached to your Pokemon, making the cards amazingly synergistic.

    3) Empoleon Ex

Another Pokemon ex from Phantasmal Flames that is not a Mega, Empoleon ex is also on this list of potential meta cards due to its Ability, Emperor’s Stance. This ability prevents any effects of the opponent’s attacks, except for damage, making it very durable.

Additionally, its move Iron Feather deals decent damage and reduces the incoming damage from the opponent’s attacks by 60 on the next turn. It can be paired with Metang from Temporal Forces and Genesect ex from Black Bolt to help it attach Metal Energy and find Pokemon Evolution cards.

    4) Ludicolo

Ludicolo has a possibility to be the missing piece in Mega Venusaur ex decks. This Pokemon’s Ability is Exciting Heal, which can work when a Grass-type Mega Pokemon ex is in play.

Although Ludicolo is a Stage 2 Pokemon, you can evolve it quickly from a Lotad on the same turn due to the new Stadium Card Forest of Vitality. This makes a viable meta choice for Mega Venusaur ex, or Mega Heracross ex, who is also part of the Phantasmal Flames expansion of the Pokemon TCG.

    5) Mega Sharpedo Ex

Mega Pokemon was not a meta-Pokemon immediately, with only Mega Absol ex and Mega Kangaskhan ex in the pool, owing to their useful traits. However, Mega Sharpedo ex seems to be ready to do well in the meta. Its move Hungry Jaw does 120 damage for only two Basic Darkness Energy. However, if it has any damage counters on it, this damage shoots up to 270.

However, to deal the damage to Mega Sharpedo ex without risk, Toxtricity from the same expansion can use its Ability Bad Upper to attach a Basic Darkness Energy at the cost of attaching two damage counters to Mega Sharpedo ex. This fulfills the necessary conditions for Mega Sharpedo ex to spam Hungry Jaw and deal 270 each time.
