New World Aeternum is a beautiful-looking MMORPG game that is extremely challenging to run. It’s built using the Amazon Lumberyard engine (now known as O3DE) and requires capable hardware to hit a playable frame rate at 4K.

Even though 4K resolution shifts compute load to the GPU, our tests show otherwise. What we’ve observed is that the game continues to experience CPU-bound issues and occasionally uses your GPU inconsistently.

NPC heavy regions like Great Cleave, Shattered Mountains, and Mrykguard will be tough to clear, as the mobs in those regions have multiple movesets and require time dodging and parrying. With inconsistent frame time, it becomes difficult to clear them while soloing those regions.

That said, the settings below fully mitigate the game’s engine-related CPU-bound issues and solve the frame time inconsistencies. We are using frame generation to fix these problems. Since the game only supports DLSS Frame Generation, we are encouraging the use of Lossless Scaling on AMD GPUs as an alternative solution.

The recommended GPU power for experiencing New World at 4K resolution starts from RTX 4080 Super on Nvidia, and RX 7900 XTX / RX 9070 XT on AMD.  If you have higher-tier GPUs such as RTX 4090 / 5080 or RTX 5090, then you can max out the game entirely and enjoy the visuals.

However, we would still recommend sticking to these, as these cater to very high frame rates and will drastically improve your frame time and reduce input lag.
