Pokemon Legends Z-A has removed the Linking Cord, a crucial item helpful in getting trade evolutions without trading in Legends Arceus. So, it has become significantly harder for trainers to complete their Pokedex entries.

However, you can instead use Trade Codes to quite easily find trading partners who are willing to provide you with the Pokemon you want. This guide will go over what a Trade Code is and how it functions in-game.

A Trade Code essentially functions as a search function to locate a trade partner who is willing to trade and receive a specific Pokemon. Since the Linking Cord has been removed, trading has become necessary to fill the Pokedex.

Although you can get many of the trade evolutions during the post-game Wild Zone 20 (like Gengar and Alakazam), not all of them will be available in-game readily. So, you will definitely not be able to fill the Pokedex without interacting with another trainer.

You should ensure that the Pokemon you are receiving is the one you want. Moreover, make sure to check the Held Item. Many people might send a Pokemon holding an Everstone over, which would not let the Pokemon evolve.

Moreover, you can also get a Gengar without the need for trading.

How To Set Up Your Own Trade Code

You can easily set up your own Trade Code as well, and share it with your friends. To make this work, you do not need to prepare anything; simply follow the same steps as before and enter whatever new code you wish to create.

Now, you can just share that code with whoever you wish to trade with. This will let you trade, as long as both trainers enter the same code. Now, you can share that code around if you want to popularize a trade code for a particular Pokemon.
