Plus Moves are one of the many new battle mechanics in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Legends Arceus, the previous Pokemon Legends game, made use of the Strong and Agile Style mechanics in combat to distinguish itself from previous games in the series.
Pokemon Legends Z-A does something similar. For starters, the game has real-time combat, standing out among the games that have almost always used turn-based mechanics. What Are Plus Moves in Pokemon Legends Z-A?
Plus Moves are variations of normal moves that have a bit of extra energy put into them. This causes them to have a slight increase to their base power, or an increase in their effect, and so on. Super effective Plus Moves will deal even more damage. Any move can eventually be mastered and transformed into a Plus Move. To do so, you must level up your Pokemon. Over time, every move in their natural learnset will become a Plus Move.
However, this method only applies to the moves a Pokemon can learn naturally. To make a move learned via TM into a Plus Move, you will need a Seed of Mastery. Take this seed to Josee of the Fist of Justice, and she will transform one of your moves into a Plus Move.
How To Use a Plus Move in Pokemon Legends Z-A
To use a Plus Move, you must press the ‘+’ button before using a move. Pressing the button once during combat will cause your next move to become a Plus Move (provided you have mastered the move beforehand). Using a Plus Move uses up a bit of your stored Mega Energy. In other words: No Mega Energy = No Plus Moves
An important thing to note is the effect of Mega Evolution on Plus Moves. While a Pokemon is Mega Evolved, all of their moves automatically become Plus Moves. Coupled with the innate stat boost provided by Mega Evolution, this makes all your moves very powerful.
Tips and Tricks for Using Plus Moves in Pokemon Legends Z-A
- In Rogue Mega Evolution battles, Plus Moves can be used to interrupt the enemy Pokemon while they are charging. This can allow you to avoid some of their most powerful attacks.
- Moves like Protect and Detect cannot avoid all the damage from a Plus Move.
- Using a status move as a Plus Move increases its duration and its effect. This can have a huge impact over the course of a battle.
