Learn how to find and evolve Riolu into Lucario in Pokemon Legends Z-A, including Mega Riolu evolution details.
Riolu is a Gen 4 Fighting-type Pokemon that can be found early on in Pokemon Legends Z-A. It has high attack and speed stats for its tier, with Physical, Fighting, Steel, and Rock moves that it learns after a few level-ups, serving as a valuable Pokemon on your roster in the early game.
Riolu’s evolved form, Lucario, boasts Poison immunity with an array of elemental resistances. However, you cannot evolve Riolu into Lucario by leveling up and must take a unique approach to do so. Lucario can then be Mega Evolved into its final form, giving you access to a powerful Fighting/Steel-type Mega Pokemon relatively early in the game.
Pokemon Legends Z-A: How To Find Riolu
Riolu can be found on the rooftops of Rouge Sector 4’s Passage Ombrage building during the day. Rouge Sector 4 is located toward the northwest side of Lumiose City, to the east of Poke Ball Boutique. Access the rooftop using the ladder found on the northeast side of the building.
Riolu is weak against Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type Pokemon, and you should be able to quickly weaken and capture it using a Poke Ball. If no Riolu spawn on the rooftops, rest at a nearby bench to reset spawns and check again.
Pokemon Legends Z-A: How To Find Lucario
Lucario is given to you after completing Main Mission 37: Operation Protect Lumiose, and returning to Hotel AZ. Following the completion of all main story missions, you can access Wild Zone 20 and find Lucario there. However, both these methods take too long, and you can get Lucario much sooner through evolution.
Pokemon Legends Z-A: How To Evolve Riolu into Lucario
To evolve Riolu into Lucario, you must max out your friendship with Riolu. You can improve your friendship with Riolu by spending time with it and using consumables.
- Roam: While traveling between quests or exploring, have Riolu out of its Poke Ball. This will slowly increase your friendship with Riolu.
- Cafe: Rest at any cafe with Riolu out of its Poke Ball to increase friendship score.
- Vitamins: Use Vitamins on Riolu to increase its stats and improve friendship. Vitamins such as Iron and Protein can be purchased at the Pokemon Center for Poke Dollars.
- Soothe Bell: The best tool to increase friendship, giving Riolu a Soothe Bell will increase friendship following every battle it participates in. You can earn the Soothe Bell by completing Side Mission 36: Some Friendly Competition.
Once your friendship with Riolu is maxed out, evolve it into Lucario. Unlock Lucario’s Mega Evolution by purchasing the Lucarionite Mega Stone from Quasartico Inc. for 240 Mega Shards and giving it to Lucario.
