Here’s a walkthrough of the “A Rogue Mega Tyranitar” mission, in which you face one of the strongest Rogue Mega Pokemon in the main story.
Pokemon Legends Z-A features many missions involving exceptionally powerful creatures known as Rogue Mega Pokemon. This guide explains the mission of defeating Rogue Mega Tyranitar, the Armor Pokemon.
Firstly, to find Rogue Mega Tyranitar, you first need to start the “A Rogue Mega Tyranitar” mission, which appears relatively late in the game. Here’s everything you should know about this mission, including Mega Tyranitar’s weaknesses and counters.
Pokemon Legends Z-A: A Rogue Mega Tyranitar Mission Guide
Starting Location
To begin the “A Rogue Mega Tyranitar” mission, you must complete Main Mission 31, in which Vinnie asks you to take care of three Rogue Pokemon. The second Rogue Mega you encounter is Tyranitar, and it appears as an icon on the map after you defeat Dragonite in the previous mission.
You can find Rogue Mega Tyranitar in the Jaune Sector 4, northwest of the Wild Zone 8. To start the fight, simply walk close to Tyranitar. However, before doing so, you should use one of your Pokemon to attack the surrounding crystals to obtain Mega Shards.

Rogue Mega Tyranitar Boss Fight
Rogue Mega Tyranitar is a formidable Pokemon with high stats, including at least three perfect IVs. Moreover, it is a Level 59 Pokemon with a Rock/Dark typing. However, it also has a lot of weaknesses, including:
- Fighting
- Ground
- Bug
- Steel
- Water
- Grass
- Fairy
So, we recommend that you bring these Pokemon that can exploit the weaknesses mentioned above. Not only do they have super-effective moves, but they can also Mega Evolve during the fight. Here are all of them:
- Lucario
- Gardevoir
- Falinks
- Starmie
- Aggron
During the battle, Mega Rogue Tyranitar uses during the battle:
- Rock Slide: Tyranitar spawns multiple floating rocks that drop after a second. Move away from underneath to avoid damage.
- Rock Tomb: Tyranitar charges up and spawns jagged rocks going outwards from its locations. This has a large range, so calling back your Pokemon is the best choice. You can also damage Tyranitar enough to stun it out of this animation.
- Sandstorm: Tyranitar creates circular zones on the field that damage anyone inside.
- Earthquake: Tyranitar moves to the center of the field and charges a powerful attack covering nearly the entire arena. Moreover, the best way to avoid it is to quickly move to the far outer edge.
Keep dodging its attacks and use the correct moves to win this fight quickly.
A Rogue Mega Tyranitar Mission Reward
After you defeat Rogue Mega Tyranitar, you receive the Tyranitarite Stone as a reward. You can use it to Mega Evolve your Tyranitar during battles against other Pokemon. Additionally, completing this mission also unlocks Mission 33, which involves defeating the final Rogue Mega Pokemon Vinnie asks you to defeat, which is Starmie.
