This guide familiarizes you with abilities, skills, and core mechanics to create and play the best Mara build in Fellowship.

The best Mara build in Fellowship will leverage the hero’s spider-like abilities, which allow her to poison targets for sustained damage over time. She also specializes in dealing burst damage by managing energy and combo points effectively. The following guide aims to familiarize you with all of her core mechanics, including key abilities that you need to master. Like many of the other heroes in the game, you’ll learn how the core builder-spender system works for Mara. So, let’s get started.
Best Mara Build in Fellowship: Overview
This Mara build relies greatly on her assassin and subtlety abilities. For instance, you’ll leverage poisons, stealth, combo points, and her energy bar to progress through the run. You can generate combo points when using abilities, such as Backstab and Widow’s Bite. Once you have quite a bit of combo points at hand, you can use them to fuel devastating finishers, such as Queen’s Fang or Arachnid Assault.
On the other hand, stealth entry will empower poisons on the enemies. The poison that takes effect depends on which of Mara’s ability you use in the first attack as you come out of stealth. However, keep in mind that all of her abilities are either builders or spenders. You cannot unleash spender abilities without first accumulating combo points from builder abilities.
Core Mechanics
AS we state earlier, you can deal poison effects with your starter attack from stealth. You also need to manage an energy bar, while building up combo points. They help you to cast Mara’s powerful finishers. Also, with Mara, you’ll want to pay close attention to positioning before attacking foes. Abilities, such as Backstab, deal much more damage to enemies when you position her behind the enemy before striking. On the other hand, Widow’s Bite is a builder attack where the DPS hero strikes with the weapons in both her hands, generating two combo points per hit. If it’s a critical strike, the ability generates three combo points from one hit. So, there’s a possibility of one Widow’s Bite attack (consisting of one strike from each of Mara’s weapons) to generate up to six combo points if both weapons critically strike the foe.
Fan of Knives is a builder ability that is more suitable for AoE scenarios, as it spreads the poison effect from one enemy to the next. It blankets the foes with deadly poison for some DoT. The same is true for stealth opening abilities and skills, such as Skittering Blades
Key Abilities

If you’re aiming to play the best Mara build in Fellowship, you’ll have to prioritize using Brooding Shadows frequently. This ability allows her to enter stealth instantly, which empowers your Widow’s Bite, Backstab, and Skittering Blades with any poison you choose. With Backstab, you can deal Caustic Poison damage, which instantly gives you 6 compo points apart from dealing poison damage. The Volatile Poison from Skittering Blades spreads the poison effect to any enemy that’s hit with the attack for six seconds. After six seconds, there’s an explosive end to the ability, which strikes any nearby foes too. Lastly, empowered Widow’s Bite inflicts enemies with the Seething Poison. With it, a single target will receive poison DoT for 60 seconds. While it’s active, Mara will regen energy quicker.

Important Abilities Against Single Targets
The following attack pattern works best if you’re going up against elite enemies or bosses:
- Begin with Widow’s Bite as the opener from stealth. Doing so leads to instant combo points generation.
- If your opener doesn’t crit strike and generate six combo points for you, move behind the enemy and use Backstab to fill up your combo point stack.
- Spend the first six points you generate to fuel Hemorrhaging Strike, which applies Bleed on the target for 12 seconds. The effect scales depending on how many combo points you have powering it. Maintain this bleed effect throughout the battle by refreshing it just as it’s about to expire.
- Next, use any excess combo points to power Queen’s Fang. This deals significant damage to single targets, and it only increases the more combo points you spend on it.
- From time to time, re-enter stealth whilst in combat to weave in Backstab and Widow’s Bite attacks. These are important to continuously generate combo points for Mara.
Important AoE Abilities
The method below works great if you’re focusing damage over a large swarm or group of enemies, instead of a single target:
- Once again, enter stealth before engaging. Open with Fan of Knives or Skittering Blades to inflict poison to the entire group. These attacks also begins the combo points generation process.
- Spend six combo points on fueling Hemorrhaging Strike on multiple enemies, spreading the bleed effect within the group. Use all further combo points to power Arachnid Assault for significant AoE burst damage.
- Alternatively, if you’re dealing with fast dying mobs where the bleed effect cannot tick completely, we suggest cycling Fan of Knives combined with Arachnid Assault.
- You will also need to get in Widow’s Bite attacks from time to time to keep the combo points generation going. If you exhaust the points completely, trigger Skittering Blades to regain the points instantly.
Key Stats

For Mara, you typically have to focus more on Haste and Critical Strike stats. The former helps to improve overall energy generation, making the rotations feel much smoother. This is especially true if you intend to chain finishers and re-enter stealth in the middle of combat to maintain combo points generation. High Critical Strike is key to maximizing benefits from Widow’s Bite. If you manage to critically hit enemies with both swipes of the ability, Mara will gain six combo points instantly. You can then spend them however you want to.

- Always attack from behind the enemy with Backstab to maximize damage and reduce the risk of parries.
