Ninja Gaiden 4, much like its predecessors, features some really cool weapons, albeit with a twist. Instead of Ryu Hayabusa, the weapons in this game are mostly tied to Yakumo. In Ninja Gaiden 4, most of the story is focused on Yakumo; as such, it makes sense that he will get most of the weapons. However, Ryu does have access to one incredibly powerful weapon in Ninja Gaiden 4.

Much like Devil May Cry’s Dante, Ryu is capable of using his weapon for multiple different combos. As for Yakumo, he gets new weapons as you progress through the main story. Each weapon has the same base moveset. However, the differences between the weapons are in their hitboxes as well as combo strings.

Here’s a list of all the weapons (for Yakumo and Ryu) in Ninja Gaiden 4, and how to unlock them.

At the start of the game, Yakumo only has access to the Takeminakata. It’s essentially Dual Katanas that can be transformed into a Long Sword while using the Bloodraven form. However, after you defeat Kitsune Courtesan, you get access to the first weapon variant for Yakumo – Yatousen. All of Yakumo’s weapons are unlocked as you progress through the main story.

All of Yakumo’s weapons are tied to main story bosses in Ninja Gaiden 4. As you progress through the main story, you will unlock the seals that keep the Dark Dragon caged. Each seal offers a new weapon for Yakumo. Furthermore, later in the story, Yakumo gets access to the Dark Dragon Blade, which is the ultimate weapon for the final boss.

As for Ryu Hayabusa, he starts with his Dragon Sword from the past games, and only has access to that weapon. Here’s a list of all the weapons and how to unlock them:

Yakumo

  • Takeminakata: Unlocked by default (available from the start).
  • Yatousen: Unlocks after defeating Kitsune Courtesan in Chapter 3 – Phantom Pleasure Quarter.
  • Magatsuhi: Unlocks after defeating Kurobo in Chapter 7 – Altar of the Mountain God.
  • Kage-Hiruko: Unlocks after completing Chapter 10 – Bounding Spirits.
  • Dark Dragon Blade: Unlocks after defeating Ryu Hayabusa in Chapter 19 – Ebon Wings.

Ryu Hayabusa

  • Dragon Sword: Available from the start of Ryu’s campaign in Chapter 14 – Unholy Descent.

The Dark Dragon Blade is one of the most powerful weapons in Ninja Gaiden 4, which is fitting considering it’s the ultimate tool Yakumo uses against the Dark Dragon itself. However, it’s available only until you defeat the Dark Dragon. In New Game Plus, you don’t get access to the Dark Dragon Blade until Chapter 19. To permanently unlock the weapon, you need to complete all the Purgatory Trials.
