Controversy erupts as Roblox developer Jandel accuses Fortnite of promoting games that clone popular Roblox titles.

Grow a Garden developer and owner Jandel called out Fortnite for promoting games that he claims “are just clones” of Roblox titles. On October 25, 2025, the popular Roblox developer replied to an X post by the official Fortnite page promoting Freaking Fortnitemares. The original post highlights three UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) games that have similar names and gameplay mechanics to famous experiences on Roblox:
- Unbox a Brainrot
- Steal the Brainrots
- Garden Vs Brainrots
In his post, Jandel accused the maker of these games, Pandvil, of using “1:1 assets” from the Roblox counterparts, such as Steal a Brainrot and Plants Vs Brainrots. Jandel expressed his discontent at Fortnite promoting these games, writing:
“One thing I’ve always respected about @TimSweeneyEpic is his clear stance on metaverse ethics.”
“That’s why it’s concerning to see a precedent emerging where Fortnite developers can clone a Roblox game 1:1 and then seek a licence after the fact. In the case of Pandvils game, he literally had 1:1 assets before changing them… Fortnite then publicly promoting these games feels like an extra kick in the teeth.”

Games such as Steal a Brainrot, Grow a Garden, and Plants Vs Brainrots have taken over Roblox in the last few months. With millions of simultaneous plays during peak hours, these games have a worldwide fan base and are quite successful IPs. Jandel, the owner of two of these top titles, has been very vocal about Roblox and UGC (User Generated Content) being the future of gaming.
However, the use of famous internet characters such as Brainrots has been a point of contention. Only last month, Steal a Brainrot removed the popular Tung Tung Tung Sahur unit from their game over copyright issues. Jandel has now brought up the issue of UEFN titles on Fortnite, supposedly copying assets from his and other Roblox games. He accused Pandvil, who created some of the games for Fortnite, of not obtaining permission to use the assets.

Jandel also accused Pandvil of admitting to copying things and changing them after the fact, despite being told not to.
“In this case, you can literally see @iPandvil own public posts where he admits to cloning our game with the intent to “change it later.” I even have DMs where he tells me he is copying the idea but offers a licence. When I said no he uploaded the game anyway.”
The popular Roblox creator also criticized Epic Games for violating the “metaverse ethics,” claiming that the Fortnite games are not building and furthering the genre and are just “clones.”
“I care deeply about the future of UGC/Metaverse gaming. A core pillar of the space are these small increments of previous games, that over time foster complex and esoteric game genres. But these games aren’t small increments; they are just clones.”
KreekCraft Says Fortnite Might Be Known As “Ripoff Roblox” in a Few Years
Not every popular Fortnite experience is a Roblox game clone. Just the ones that are being heavily pushed by Epic are.

The popular Roblox YouTuber KreekCraft also weighed in on the issue in a reply to Jandel on X. The content creator noted how Roblox was criticized in the past as a worse version of Minecraft for kids who could not afford to play the popular game. KreekCraft also mused about the possibility of Fortnite becoming a “ripoff” of Roblox because of copied UEFN games:
“About 10 years ago Roblox was widely regarded as the “ripoff Minecraft” or what kids would play who couldn’t afford Minecraft. (ironic I know) I genuinely wonder if in a few years Fortnite will be regarded as the “ripoff Roblox”. It seems like every popular game is just a worse version (literal copy) of something already on Roblox.”
The YouTuber acknowledged that game clones exist on all platforms as well, and called on Fortnite to step up the games available on UEFN.
“Roblox has its own issues of ripoff games, don’t get me wrong, but it feels weird seeing Fortnite officially promoting these over BR. If Fortnite wants to be a Roblox competitor (which Roblox needs good competition) then they really need to step up their UEFN game, because right now it’s just not cutting it. The whole platform just feels like a dollar general version of Roblox.”
