As per the developer of Black Myth Wukong, GameScience, optimization issues are responsible for the delay of the launch on the Xbox Series X|S. In their official FAQ section, GameScience mentioned:
“We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”
While this news is disappointing for Xbox console owners, they will be relieved to know that the developer is working to bring Black Myth Wukong to the Xbox platform as early as possible. Although the exact nature of the pending optimizations is not known, a spokesperson from Microsoft said to Windows Central:
“We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with GameScience to bring the game to our platforms. We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”
Possible reason behind Black Myth Wukong’s delay on Xbox Series X|S
Black Myth Wukong’s delay on Xbox Series X|S is not the first time that the release of a game on the Xbox console line has been postponed. The situation can be compared to Baldur’s Gate 3’s launch delay on Xbox Series S.
Xbox Series S limitations
The Xbox Series S is the less powerful of the two consoles in terms of hardware. As such, developers can find it challenging to achieve optimal performance and visual fidelity when it comes to this console. In case of BG3, the game faced specific issues with split-screen co-op on the Series S. The exact reasons for the delay of Black Myth Wukong are currently unknown, but the similarity cannot be overlooked.
Black Myth Wukong will be available on PC and PS5 only at launch. It will unfortunately not be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
