You can find the Ancient Temple in Baldur’s Gate 3 through a side quest or a main quest in Act 2 of the game.
Players must visit the Ancient Temple to make progress in The Chosen of Shar questline in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, because this location is fairly hidden, many struggle to find it.
The Chosen of Shar questline, found in Act 1 of the game, is tied to Shadowheart. However, despite the quest kicking into gear in the first act, it is only in Act 2 that you can access the Ancient Temple. In this guide, we shall take a look at how you can reach it.
How to Find the Ancient Temple in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Ancient Temple is a location you are likely to reach by just following the main quest in Act 2. The Gauntlet of Shar quest leads players to the temple towards the end of the act. But should you want to go earlier, the temple can be located north of the House of Healing under the Thorm Mausoleum within Reithwin Town (X:-118 Y:112).
Enter the Thorm Mausoleum’s room of paintings. Under each of these paintings is a button that you can press to trigger mechanisms in the room. Interact with the paintings in the following order: Moonrise Towers, Grief, General. This will open a hidden pathway, beyond which is a Traversal Gem that will activate a lift and lead you to the Gauntlet of Shar.
The Hidden Entrance to the Ancient Temple
On the lower level, you will find a chamber with a central statue and eight Mystic Thuribles in its vicinity. To interact with the Thuribles, lower them with levers scattered around the chamber. Pull the levers, lower the Thuribles, and extinguish them.
Two circles will light up around the statue at the center of the chamber. Navigate the gaps in these circles and work your way to the statue. Interact with the statue and unlock the exit.
Head north and interact with the Pedestal of Reckoning, which will trigger a cutscene and advance the Chosen of Shar questline and bring you to the Ancient Temple.
