Resident Evil 2 – January 21, 1998
The sequel to the first Resident Evil game, Resident Evil 2, introduced players to characters like Ada Wong and Leon S. Kennedy. Leon has since become a recurring fan-favorite character in the series.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis – September 22, 1999
Closing out the original trilogy, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was an excellent game that introduced players to Nemesis, the scariest monster the series had featured until then.
Resident Evil Survivor – January 27, 2000
A bit of an obscure entry among Resident Evil games, Resident Evil Survivor was a light-gun shooter released by Capcom. The title saw mild success as it introduced players to Vincent Goldman. However, it did not have much bearing on the overall story of the franchise.
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica – February 3, 2000
Code: Veronica was the fourth major installment in the Resident Evil series. Players go on an adventure through a remote prison island as Claire and Chris Redfield attempt to survive a viral outbreak. The game has been largely praised for its cinematic cutscenes and dynamic camera movements, a first for the franchise.
Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica – November 8, 2001
Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica once again put players in the shoes of Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside, but the game was a light-gun shooter instead.
Resident Evil Gaiden – December 14, 2001
One of the most unique games in the franchise, Resident Evil Gaiden was an exclusive Game Boy Color release. The game featured a top down view that switched to a first-person perspective when players engaged with an enemy. Another light-gun shooter, Resident Evil: Dead Aim is a noteworthy entry. Earlier Resident Evil Games had no way for players to move while aiming, but Dead Aim allowed players to change their position when aiming as one of its key features.
Resident Evil Outbreak – December 11, 2003
Resident Evil Outbreak is largely remembered as the game that introduced elements of co-op and online multiplayer to the series. However, the game’s base mechanics left a lot to be desired.
Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 – September 9, 2004
File #2 was a standalone expansion for the original Resident Evil Outbreak, and Capcom made little to no changes to the gameplay. While the co-op action was fun, the game featured frustrating AI that took a lot away from the experience.
Resident Evil 4 – January 11, 2005
Widely considered among the best Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4 is a landmark title that features bombastic action sequences. Leon S. Kennedy’s presence also pleased fans. Unlike Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 4 had massively improved gameplay.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles – November 13, 2007
The Umbrella Chronicles, an on-rail shooter, was mainly released to hold players off till the release of Resident Evil 5. The game made use of the Wii’s motion controls to provide an immersive experience.
Resident Evil 5 – March 5, 2009
The highly anticipated sequel to Resident Evil 4 delivered a stellar shooter experience. Resident Evil 5 takes players to Africa, and they experience it through the eyes of Chris Redfield. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D – June 2, 2011

Resident Evil: Revelations – January 26, 2012
Revelations bridges the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The gameplay remains relatively similar to 4, was players experience over-the-shoulder action.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City – March 20, 2012
Operation Raccoon City was Resident Evil’s big venture into co-op as it featured four-player co-op and online multiplayer. However, while the experience of playing with friends was exciting, the game failed to live up to the standards of the franchise when it came to gameplay.
Resident Evil 6 – October 2, 2012
Resident Evil 6 was a divisive entry in the franchise. It veered away from the horror genre and mainly focused on action elements. As a result, many were disappointed. Capcom would go on to remedy this imbalance in future titles.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – February 24, 2015

Resident Evil 2 Remake – January 25, 2019
The remake for Resident Evil 2 faithfully adapted the original for a modern audience. The overhaul of the game’s visuals and combat system allowed players to experience and relive the classic horror title in its best possible form.

An arena shooter, Resident Evil Re:Verse allowed everyone to play as iconic characters from the series. While the game never gained much traction, its arsenal and mechanics are still quite impressive.
