Players’ choices trigger multiple timelines and create separate branching paths in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s Episode Battle mode. This guide explains all the branching paths of Son Goku.
The action fighting game Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is releasing today on October 11, 2024. The game has a massive roster of around 182 characters. Furthermore, the game’s main campaign mode, titled Episode Battle, narrates the storyline of the eight major characters, Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Jiren, Future Trunks, Goku Black, and Frieza.
These characters’ campaigns vary in length and include a concept of “What If” branching paths, referred to as Sparking Episodes. Players can unlock different narratives with their choices and actions.
All Goku’s Branching Paths (Sparking Episodes) in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero
Goku, the protagonist, has three Branching Paths, or Sparking Episodes, in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

- Pushing the Limit
- The Changing Future
Note that playing on easy difficulty will not create the Sparking timeline paths.
1) Side by Side Branching Path
Goku’s first Sparking Episode, Side by Side, can be unlocked by choosing to go alone during the episode The Earth’s Mightiest Duo?! and defeating Raditz within a specific time limit.
Raditz vs The Turtle School: You’ll need to weaken Raditz until Krillin jumps in to help.
Piccolo’s Proposal: Goku and the team train for the arrival of more Saiyans after defeating Raditz, and Piccolo offers to train Gohan to help him grow stronger.
Training Together: As Goku, you need to select among Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, or Chiaotzu with whom you should fight. Defeating any of them allows you to progress in the story.
The Importance of Teamwork: You need to defeat Nappa in this episode. After being defeated by Goku, Vegeta finishes off Nappa.
Fearless Vegeta: Vegeta challenges Goku. As the fight progresses, Vegeta transforms into a Great Ape.
Great Ape Extermination!: Defeat the Great Ape version of Vegeta by lowering his health.
The Battle Resumes Too Soon: Goku and Vegeta fight again, but Piccolo accidentally hits Goku with his Special Beam Cannon and ends the battle.
Team Combat by an Unlikely Pair: Frieza’s forces arrive, and you need to defeat Dodoria and Zarbon.
Mysterious Elite Squadron: After defeating Dodoria and Zarbon, the Ginyu Force steps up. You need to defeat Guldo to complete this episode.
Consecutive Battles with the Ginyu Force!: After taking on Guldo, you must defeat the entire Ginyu Force.
Suspicious Vegeta: Frieza sends Captain Ginyu to find the Dragon Balls, but when Vegeta returns, he acts strangely and turns on Goku. It turns out Ginyu has swapped bodies with Vegeta, and Ginyu will eventually turn into a frog.
Frieza’s Transformation: – With the Ginyu Force defeated, Frieza fights Goku in his first form. Reducing his health forces him to transform into his second and third forms.
Side by Side: In his third form, Frieza fights Goku. After taking enough damage, Frieza shifts into his final form. Vegeta steps in and forces Goku to recover his strength. Once Goku is ready, he hits Frieza with a Spirit Bomb and defeats him. This ends the Side by Side Sparking Episode.
2) Pushing the Limit
Goku’s second Sparking Episode, Pushing the Limit, can be unlocked by choosing to work with Piccolo during the episode The Earth’s Mightiest Duo?! and defeating Raditz during the next episode, Rematch and Result. Keep in mind that you need to be quick in defeating Raditz, or else you will be directed to the original narrative.
Temporary Peace: With Vegeta and Nappa on their way to Earth, Goku tests his son, Gohan. To complete this episode, you must defeat Gohan.
Hurry, Goku!: Goku arrives just in time to help his friends and defeats Saibaman.
Goku vs Nappa: Nappa and Vegeta land on Earth, and Goku battles Nappa. The episode ends when you reduce Nappa’s health to the final bar.
A Saiyan’s Education: Similar to the Side by Side path, Goku defeats Nappa, resulting in Vegeta killing Nappa.
Transformation: Goku fights Vegeta, and he eventually transforms into Great Ape once you reduce his health.
Goku’s Rage: The Great Ape version Vegeta injures Goku’s friends and his son, Gohan. This triggers Goku’s transformation into a Super Saiyan form. As a Super Saiyan, Goku defeats Vegeta and lets him escape.
A Solo Journey to Planet Namek: Goku and his team arrive on Planet Namek in search of the Dragon Balls. Defeat Frieza’s forces there to conclude the episode.
Pushing the Limit: Vegeta returns as a Super Saiyan, having trained since his defeat. He reveals that he has already defeated Frieza. Goku transforms again into Super Saiyan form and defeats Vegeta, who is the final boss of this path instead of Frieza. Defeating Vegeta concludes the Pushing the Limit Sparking Episode.
3) The Changing Future
Choosing to help Piccolo during the episode of Hyperbolic Time Chamber instead of waiting for Vegeta and the others unlocks Goku’s third Sparking Episode, The Changing Future.
Defeat Cell!: Goku arrives just in time to save Piccolo from Cell. Failing to defeat Cell will send back to the original narrative.
The Androids and Goku: After defeating Cell, defeat Android 18 to move forward in the story.
Fun and Games: Once Android 18 is defeated, take down Android 17 to reach the climax of this path.
The Changing Future: Though Androids 17 and 18 want to retreat after being defeated by Goku, Android 16 refuses and fights Goku. Defeating them concludes the The Changing Future path.
