Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is not all about basking in the nostalgia of the Budokai Tenkaichi series and enjoying iconic fights. Sure you can recreate and relive some of the most epic moments from the series, but this fighting game has a lot more to offer, especially with the ranked modes.

There are two separate ranked modes in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. These are multiplayer modes where you will be matched with other players to test your mettle.

In this article, we will explain the ranked modes that you can play in the latest iteration of Dragon Ball games.

All Ranked Modes in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has two ranked modes:

  • Single Battle – Single-character battles
  • DP Battle – Multi-character battle based on Destruction Points.

Here is a detailed explanation of how these ranked modes work in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero:

Single Battle

Single Battle is very straightforward. You will engage in a one-versus-one battle with another player. Both you and your opponent will be able to pick exactly one character from the massive roster, and then you fight it out.

This form of ranked mode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero offers a short-lived but fun experience. If you are looking for a quick spurt of ranked battles, the Single Battle mode is the ideal mode for you.

DP Battle

DP Battles are much more complex, and allow you to have a maximum of five characters in your team. However, you cannot just select any character. There are certain restrictions at play here.

You are restricted to 15 DP (Destruction Points) in a DP battle. When you select your characters, each of them will have their own DP at the bottom right corner of their icons. This can be considered to be their power level of sorts, and your total value for the entire team cannot exceed 15 DP.

Essentially, you do not need to select all five characters to fill up the 15 DP requirement. However, you should have at least three characters in your team to ensure a balanced overall layout.

Character Selection Tips for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Ranked DP Mode

Here are some tips that can help you select your characters for the ranked DP mode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero:

  • Try to avoid characters in their strongest form. These usually consume a lot of DP, whereas you can get their base form for significantly lesser DP to create a more balanced team.
  • Have at least three fighters in your team. However, having four fighters is often the best, allowing you to select both s-tier and mid-tier characters. This usually creates the most balanced team for you.
  • Transform your base characters and get them up to their stronger variants. This is also one of the reasons you should not opt for the strongest variants during team selection. For example, Goku SSGSS takes 8 DP, whereas his base form takes 5 DP. You can simply transform him gradually to SSGSS during the battle to gain the higher power for a much lesser DP.
