My Hero Academia is a modern shonen title that has explored darker themes in its story, which isn’t common in this genre. Naturally, the fanbase grew exponentially, and the manga series gained a massive fanbase as it progressed. The manga recently concluded the story, and the fanbase was quite content with how Kohei Horikoshi ended it.

That said, the anime adaptation, which isn’t far from its concluding stages, has reeled in newer fans. These anime-only fans have one question after completing season 7 — where to start reading the My Hero Academia manga after the anime?

Which Chapter of My Hero Academia Manga to Read After the Anime?

Anime-only fans can pick up chapter 399 of My Hero Academia manga after completing the anime’s seventh season. The last episode of season 7 covered chapter 398 of the series, so anime-only fans who don’t wish to wait for the next season can read the aforementioned chapter.

One can understand anime-only fans’ excitement since the story is nearly complete. All heroes are putting their lives on the line as the world’s fate hangs on a thread. Midoriya and every other hero on the battlefield are currently fighting All For One and Tomura Shigaraki. Based on how things are going, the odds are stacked against the heroes. It will take nothing short of a miracle for the young heroes of the U.A. Academy to save the world.

Fans can read the latest chapters on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus website and phone application. Viz Media’s official website also has this manga series as a part of its catalog. It is important to note that fans must avail of the platforms’ paid services to read the chapters.

How Much of the My Hero Academia Manga Has Been Covered by the Anime?

As mentioned, the anime has adapted 398 chapters from the manga series. There are 430 chapters in total, including the epilogue. This means there are only 32 chapters left to be adapted by Studio BONES, which the anime will cover in the coming season.

The series has entered the final story arc — the Final War. This is one of the story’s biggest sections, and season 7 covered a substantial portion of it. The arc commences with chapter 343 and ends with chapter 430. This is the final story arc that determines the all-out war involving All For One, Shigaraki Tomura, and all the heroes and students of the U.A. that have been deployed.

Chapters 425-430 mark the epilogue of the series. This implies that the main story covered in the manga concludes in chapter 425. The epilogue focuses on the state of the city after the war has come to an end. While the ending was satisfying, the epilogue could have received better treatment from Kohei Horikoshi.

Should You Read the My Hero Academia Manga or Wait for Season 8?

This is an interesting question that many anime-only fans have posed in various forums. The answer will naturally vary from person to person because of their choice of medium. However, we strongly recommend reading the manga before the final season. Kohei Horikoshi’s art is one of the reasons for this series’ success. In fact, Studio BONES has been criticized for bad animation simply because it was hard to fully capture Horikoshi’s art style in the anime medium.

That, paired with the gripping story, makes it an entertaining read. We urge the fanbase to read the entire manga should they wish to revisit the series after its conclusion. The anime is certainly entertaining. However, the manner in which Horikoshi drew certain panels was captivating in ways the anime failed to do so.

Furthermore, the anime adaptation was censored, so some of the darker panels lost their impact. The source material had no limitations, making it an exceptionally entertaining read.

Are the My Hero Academia Movies Part of the Manga?

In short, the movies are not a part of the manga. However, there were certain elements from the movie that Horikoshi implemented later in the manga. There was little to no relevance to the overarching story. This is a bit of a hot take since the canonicity of movies has divided the fandom. The movies didn’t adapt the manga’s events, but they were set in the same timeline.

Although the canonicity of the movies is a debate, we recommend watching them if fans are curious. However, it is not required if fans wish to experience the main story of the manga.

Conclusion

My Hero Academia is a thrilling story that every Shonen lover should experience. Both the manga chapters and the source material are entertaining. The anime adaptation has nearly covered the entirety of the story, and the concluding portion of the manga will be adapted in the coming season. In the meantime, we urge anime-only fans to read the manga to know how the war ended.
