Dabi, who is also known as Toya Todoroki, is one of the main villains in the My Hero Academia Animanga series. As the name indicates, he is Endeavor’s eldest son, who became a villain as he aged. The reason why Dabi became a villain was due to Endeavor’s neglect and selfish actions, which he witnessed from a young age. It is clear that the pro hero was never a good father, something he atoned for as the series progressed.

Dabi is a popular character in the story because he has a unique fire ability. He has the Blueflame Quirk that allows him to manipulate said flames and use them in a multitude of ways during battle. The series also highlighted the fact that his flames have a lot more destructive power than his father’s.

Since he is an antagonist, newer fans of the series are curious about his fate in the story. This begs the question: does Dabi die in My Hero Academia? Yes, Dabi is dead now that the manga has completed its run. Dabi becomes somewhat of a living corpse after his final battle in My Hero Academia. He was kept alive with the help of a life support machine, and he could only speak for a couple of minutes every day. The details of his situation post-battle were revealed in chapter 426 of the My Hero Academia manga series.

Dabi’s Final Battle in My Hero Academia

The final battle involving Dabi included the entire Todoroki family. Endeavor saw that Dabi’s core was on the verge of exploding as it continued to get hotter. He knew that Dabi was a ticking time bomb, and he continued to lure him away from everyone. After a couple of exchanges, it was clear that Dabi’s explosion was going to incinerate everyone within the 5-kilometer radius. Endeavor embraced Toya and flew up, hoping to minimize some of the damage that Dabi’s Inferno was about to cause.

Rei, Fuyumi, and Matsuo joined the battle. They used their Quirks in an attempt to cool Dabi. While the rate of increase reduced, the overall temperature continued to rise. Shoto, with Ingenium’s help, reached the battlefield in the nick of time. Dabi’s Inferno was about to set off, ready to burn everything around him.

However, Shoto used his ultimate move – the Great Glacial Aegir. This was a move that Shoto perfected, and it managed to quell all of Dabi’s flames. Shoto’s final move not only saved the people around him but also saved Endeavor and Dabi. The latter was alive at the end of the battle. However, he was in an extremely critical condition, the details of which were revealed after the war against All For One ended.

How Dabi Met His End in My Hero Academia

As mentioned earlier, Shoto Todoroki’s Great Glacial Aegir extinguished Dabi’s flames for good. However, he was alive towards the end of the battle. In fact, we could see Dabi cursing Endeavor and his family for doing the things they did. He and all the Todoroki members except Endeavor and Shoto were escorted by evacuation robots.

Later on, chapter 426 revealed that Toya was on a life support machine. He could only speak for a couple of minutes every day. The person who looked after Dabi in the ward stated that he was heading towards his death very soon. Dabi met his end slowly and painfully as the life in him slowly slipped away while he was affixed to the life support machine.

Dabi’s Legacy in My Hero Academia

Dabi’s loneliness was understood far too late in the series. Endeavor was not a good father, and he is to blame for his son’s actions. There is no doubt that Dabi is responsible for all that he did, but it goes without saying that Endeavor played a massive role. Dabi was willing to kill his entire family and blow everyone else who was in his vicinity. It took such drastic measures for Endeavor to understand just how severe his mistakes were.

Dabi’s actions are absolutely inexcusable in the My Hero Academia series. However, it had a lasting impact on Endeavor and the rest of the Todoroki family. It forced Endeavor to actively think and acknowledge his mistakes.

Dabi’s actions had a massive impact on the Todoroki family. Given Endeavor’s relationship with Rei and the rest of his children, things have changed drastically. The entire Todoroki family is united. They have gotten closer than ever since his final battle. In a way, Toya got the perfect family he once envisioned. The tragedy is that it quite literally took his life to achieve this goal.

Should Dabi Have Lived in My Hero Academia?

As a reader, one would hope to see Dabi live after everything that happened. As mentioned earlier, one cannot overlook the atrocities that he committed. However, it would have been heartwarming to see him get a shot at redemption. After the life-altering battle that took place, seeing him return to a happy and complete family would have been a fairy tale ending. For this reason alone, it would have been nice to see Dabi live after surviving the fight against the Todoroki family members. The fanbase would have certainly appreciated Endeavor embracing his son after everything that happened between them.

Conclusion

Dabi is a character who took his resentment towards his family to massive extremes. However, it is hard to overlook the troubles he went through as a child when he was in that family. A supportive environment at home could have avoided Dabi’s descent into darkness. That being said, Dabi was an interesting character that fans loved to see on screen.
