Naruto and its sequel Naruto: Shippuden have no shortage of fights, both close-combat and supernatural, through the use of Chakra. As we see characters grow in strength over the course of the series, it leads to the question of who exactly is the strongest in the “Narutoverse.”

The strongest character in Naruto is the Head of the Ōtsutsuki Clan, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. She is a celestial being and the very first to wield Chakra.

Why Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Is the Strongest Character in Naruto

Known as the progenitor of Chakra on Earth, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki had arrived on the planet from another dimension. Her clan, the Ōtsutsuki’s, were a parasitic species who would suck out the powers of different worlds and harvest them into a Chakra fruit.

As an inherently kind being, she wished to end all conflicts among people. To this end, she ate the Chakra fruit and gained godlike powers. Unfortunately, this also made her succumb to her desires and turn more cruel before eventually being sealed off by her sons.

1) Chakra:

In Naruto, all who knew Kaguya Ōtsutsuki praised her as unparalleled. She was the original wielder of Chakra; she had even more of it than the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki. During battle, Kaguya can also absorb the Chakra of enemies, which gives her an unlimited reserve.

2) Eyes:

Kaguya had both Byakugan and Rinne Sharingan, allowing for her exceptional perception and reading of Chakra paths. She can easily find the weak points of enemies and defeat them.

Using her eyes, she can also cast Infinite Tsukuyomi and alter the fabric of reality.

3) Jutsus:

Along with her powers, Kaguya is also adept at using several Jutsus without needing to use the signs. She can cast projectiles, use Summoning Techniques and move extremely fast.

With her mastery over Chakra, Kaguya can wield it however she sees fit. Through Chakra materialization, she can also destroy the Susanoo with minimal effort.

All these powers left her close to invincibility and immortality. Hence, there is no doubt that Kaguya Ōtsutsuki is the strongest character in Naruto.

How Strong Is Naruto Compared to Kaguya?

Many fans believe that Naruto, being the protagonist, should ideally be stronger than the villain, Kaguya.

With his Sage Techniques, large storage of Chakra, and abilities gained from Kurama, Naruto is one of the strongest characters in his own show. During the Great Ninja War, he also got the Six Paths Senjutsu, where he could use Truth-Seeking Balls of Chakra in any way he desired.

However, even with all these, Naruto’s strength does not measure up to Kaguya. She has a limitless amount of Chakra and can control nature itself. Recognizing this, Naruto had to team up with his friends in the series to finally defeat her to end the war.

Another common argument is that Baryon Mode, Naruto’s new form revealed in Boruto, could potentially defeat Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. Baryon Mode fuses Naruto and Kurama’s chakra while giving him an instant burst of power.

At the same time, Baryon Mode has a short time limit as it uses up Kurama’s life energy. Hence, while Naruto would beat her down a lot during that time, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki would revive unharmed after Baryong Mode ended.

Therefore, Naruto is the second strongest character in the series and is capable of defeating most people he faces. However, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki is one barrier he cannot climb on his own.

How Was Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Defeated?

Now that we have seen how powerful Kaguya is, how exactly was she defeated? Kaguya Ōtsutsuki was finally beaten through the combined efforts of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi.

After spending a long time fighting Kaguya, they were finally able to catch her off guard and use the Six Paths—Chibaku Tensei. Inherited from Hagoromo, this was the same seal used on Kaguya to seal her the first time.

To activate the technique, users of the Six Path Yin and Yang Powers had to make contact with the target’s body.

Since Kaguya could never truly be killed, they decided to seal her using this ability that can take away the target’s Rinne Sharingan and extract their Chakra. This trapped Kaguya inside a new moon within her core dimension.

Can Any Boruto Character Rival the Strongest Character in Naruto?

Boruto is the sequel to Naruto and revealed several other members of the Ōtsutsuki clan. Among them, there is another member of Kaguya’s family whose power surpasses her own.

Isshiki Ōtsutsuki was Kaguya’s companion when she came to earth but was unfortunately betrayed by her. While it is mentioned that he was left close to death, in truth, Isshiki is implied to be stronger than Kaguya herself.

As a proficient fighter who has incredible control over Chakra and also powerful hand-to-hand combat techniques, Isshiki was able to easily defeat both Naruto and Sasuke in Boruto.

He can control the size of other targets and also access timeless dimensions. Most importantly, Isshiki could use the Kāma on other individuals and take over their bodies. This would mean that he would never truly die, and paired with his high intelligence, they were a deadly combo.

There are arguments favoring both sides to this question since Isshiki and Kaguya have never had a fair fight and they have supreme powers.

However, we have to consider the fact that young Naruto and Sasuke sealed Kaguya. Isshiki, on the other hand, was able to defeat both of them after they matured. Thus, it is not a stretch to imagine that he would emerge victorious in a battle against Kaguya, the strongest character in Naruto.

Naruto is filled with diverse powers and memorable individuals wielding these powers. Despite being the main character, Naruto was not the most powerful but was still able to defeat a celestial being by believing in his friends.

This further emphasizes the core themes of the series and how strength goes far beyond just what is visible to the eyes. As we move on to Boruto and threats stronger than Kaguya emerge, it will be very interesting to see how our new protagonists are able to tackle their problems.
