My Hero Academia manga has been an entertaining read to say the least. The manner in which the manga concluded was quite satisfying, and the majority of the fanbase was happy with the outcome. The story is set in a world where Quirks are important and every single character in the series had some unique ability. The stakes in the manga were through the roof because All For One and Shigaraki were formidable opponents with some of the most powerful Quirks in their arsenal.
Naturally, death was prevalent throughout the series. There were plenty of characters who were important in the show but died fighting their opponents. Among those heroes, there was one person who stood out, and her hero’s name was Star and Stripe.

Star and Stripe is USA’s most powerful and highest-ranked pro hero. She makes her first proper appearance in episode 138 of the My Hero Academia anime series. She also has one of the most versatile Quirks in the series called New Order.

As mentioned earlier, Star and Stripe is USA’s top-ranked pro hero. Her name is Cathleen Bate, and she decided to be a hero after being inspired by one of Japan’s most popular heroes. Cathleen Bate is a tall and muscular woman, whose strength can rival some of the best heroes in the animanga series. However, her combat abilities lie in her Quirk and this is called New Order.
Cathleen is known for her brash personality. However, she is the most dependable hero in the US, and her comrades are more than willing to lay their life on the line for her. They trust her with their lives as she has performed numerous rescue missions and took out some of the most formidable enemies. She was aware of the threat that All For One posed. As per the protocol, she has clearance to engage only when the United Nations finalizes on providing international aid.
However, she chose to ignore orders and take on the enemy. She was quite close to All Might and she was ready to put her life on the line in order to save Japan. Despite her short appearance in the anime, Star and Stripe won over fans’ hearts. She is one of the most beloved heroes from the anime and manga series.
Inspiration Behind Star and Stripe
Those who are familiar with the manga will know that Cathleen Bate resolved to become a hero at a very young age. Cathleen and her family were travelling when she was a young child. On that fateful day in Santa Monica Pier, they were caught in the crossfires of a fight that took place between a hero and a villain. However, she and her family were saved by a Japanese exchange student. That interaction changed the course of her life, because that student inspired her to become a hero. The exchange student was none other than Toshinori Yagi, otherwise known as All Might.
He was a hero who always showed up with a smile and saved people irrespective of how dire a situation was. All Might is the reason why Cathleen decided to become a hero. Cathleen underwent military training and rose through the ranks. She spent years cultivating the strength in the hopes of reaching All Might’s level. While she has bouts of insecurity from time to time, she was the strongest hero in the US. Her Quirk and her physical abilities put her on the top spot.
Star and Stripe’s Quirk and Other Abilities
Star and Stripe’s Quirk is called New Order. This allows Cathleen to impart rules to the environment she is in. First, she would need to make contact with the person/object and call their name out loud. Following this, she has to speak about the rule she wishes to impose. This allows her to enhance her own abilities as well as modify the abilities of her opponent. She can dictate the terms of the battle, making it an exceptionally powerful Quirk to have. Despite her Quirk, Cathleen lost to Tomura Shigaraki in the anime series.
However, the effects of her Quirk were seen even after the enemy stole it from her. Such were the abilities of USA’s top-ranked pro hero. All For One deemed her the strongest woman in the world. He also wanted to steal the One For All Quirk before confronting Star and Stripe. The sheer paranoia displayed by the likes of All For One shows just how strong she was.
She also has a squadron of X-66 fighter jets. They are piloted by her comrades, who help her analyze data mid-battle and assist her in any way they can. These are some of Cathleen Bate’s most powerful abilities in the My Hero Academia series.
Star and Stripe’s Fate in My Hero Academia
Unfortunately, Star and Stripe dies in the anime and manga series. She is killed shortly after her loss in the battle against Shigaraki Tomura. After he killed her, Tomura stole her Quirk. However, she imposed a rule that her Quirk would revolt against other Quirks. Just when Shigaraki was about to use New Order, he started exploding from the inside. In the vestige world, Star and Stripe started destroying all the existing Quirks that Tomura had stolen. She even destroyed the Reflect Quirk. Even in her dying moments, she refused to back down and helped the heroes by destroying some of Tomura’s Quirks, while self-destructing the very Quirk that he stole.
