Chainsaw Man Part 2, titled The Academy Saga, is going full steam ahead and has fascinated fans with its new setting and narratives. While sticking to the core themes of the first part, the story has also explored different parts of Denji. To assist with this, Chainsaw Man Part 2 has brought forth several intriguing characters into the series. Among them, one standout character who is very close to Denji is Nayuta. So, who is Nayuta in Chainsaw Man Part 2?

Nayuta is the reincarnation of the Control Devil and is Denji’s younger sister in Chainsaw Man Part 2. Let us take a look at how this came to be.

Who Is Nayuta in Chainsaw Man Part 2

Right after Makima’s defeat at the hands of Denji in the Control Devil Arc, Kishibe introduced Denji to a young girl called Nayuta. He then explained how she was the reincarnation of the Control Devil and that he wished Denji to take care of her.

While hesitant at first, Denji agreed to prevent Nayuta from following Makima’s path. He also wanted to uphold his promise to Pochita of living a fulfilling life and cherishing other people.

Through this, Nayuta was officially taken under Denji. Chainsaw Man Part 2 continues from this point, where Nayuta acts as Denji’s younger sister and stays home with him and her dogs.

She is a sweet and innocent girl who has no sense of right and wrong. Nayuta can tend to be mischievous and was shown to turn Yoru into a dog, but her actions do not contain malice.

Is Nayuta Makima

Nayuta is the reincarnation of the Control Devil, but is she Makima? The answer to this is no. Right after beating Makima, Denji ended up eating her. While Pochita eating her would have caused the Control Devil to be erased, since Denji ate her, it just followed the standard path of being reborn.

However, when a Devil is born again, it loses all its memories and has no semblance of its past. They share certain traits in common with their past self, though done unconsciously. In Nayuta’s case, she bit Denji’s finger after she met him. This was referencing the iconic scene between Makima and Denji in Chainsaw Man Part 1.

She also has an affinity towards dogs and enjoys looking after all of them. However, unlike Makima who used this as a reference for her relationship with people, Nayuta’s intentions are much more pure.

Hence, apart from a few common traits passed down through the Control Devil, Nayuta and Makima share nothing in common. Based on the chapters released in Chainsaw Man Part 2 currently, Nayuta is a lot more expressive of her desires and doesn’t have the manipulative nature of Makima.

Nayuta’s Relationship With Denji in Chainsaw Man Part 2

The relationship between Nayuta and Denji is the key emotional plotline in Chainsaw Man Part 2. Fans had fears about how the new Control Devil would treat the protagonist, considering their trauma with the old one.

These concerns were soon put to bed when they saw the adorable relationship shared between the two. As her caretaker, Denji showers her with love, and Nayuta reciprocates it.

She is very possessive of Denji and automatically starts attacking the Chainsaw Man Church when they try to capture them. Nayuta does not necessarily have a moral compass and mostly just does what she wants. The only times she is ever aggressive in the series are when Denji, her dogs, or their home are under threat.

Nayuta’s Abilities and Powers

Since she is still a normal little girl, Nayuta is not particularly combative in Chainsaw Man when compared to the previous Control Devil. Nevertheless, she still has many of the abilities that come with her position.

Nayuta is capable of firing three chains and using her Chain Link ability. This lets her control whoever she wishes and makes them follow her orders. However, while Makima could use this ability on Devils, humans, and all entities, Nayuta is still not able to effectively use it on everyone. There has been no proper explanation for this, but her powers may get more potent as she grows older.

Additionally, Nayuta can control and alter the senses of others. This can be used on the minds of her targets to erase or plant a memory and also change the perception of senses like taste.

Nayuta’s Significance in Chainsaw Man Part 2

Nayuta’s screen time might be lacking when compared to the deuteragonist of Chainsaw Man Part 2—Asa Mitaka—but she is no less significant.

Since Denji never had proper parents or love growing up, Nayuta was the first one he could call a family member. Through his bond with her, he discovered emotions such as caring and love. Despite his experiences with Makima, he was still willing to raise Nayuta and steer her in the right direction.

This signifies the importance of second chances and breaking free of a destructive cycle. While Denji was often judged for being part Devil, he did not want to judge Nayuta for simply being the reincarnation of his previous enemy.

Together, the duo learn to discover their emotions and live a fulfilling life in an unforgiving world. Unfortunately, as seen in Chainsaw Man Chapter 171, Nayuta’s head was presented to Denji by his enemies.

Since she is a Devil, it is likely that this wasn’t enough to kill her, but it made Denji snap and bring out the true Chainsaw Man, whom he does not have control over. This serves as the main testament to how dear he holds Nayuta in his heart.

Conclusion

Nayuta is more than just a reincarnation of Makima in Chainsaw Man Part 2. She has already set herself apart with her quirky tendencies and loving relationship with Denji. While initially unsure about each other, they come to become codependent and fill in the gaps in their hearts.

She is already a hugely influential figure in Chainsaw Man, but with the recent events of Part 2 and Denji’s character development, Nayuta will likely only get more relevant.
