Pokimane or Imane Anys has amassed a huge following due to her streams but has also sparked some controversies over the years.
Imane “Pokimane” Anys is a famous Twitch streamer known for her gaming streams on the platform. She has a huge following of 9.33 million followers on Twitch and 6.62 million subscribers on YouTube. Almost every streamer has faced controversy at least once during their career. Pokimane has also been in a fair share of controversies. Let’s explore the ones she was embroiled in.
1) Pokimane Using A Slur During A Livestream
During a League of Legends livestream in 2019, Pokimane’s viewers alleged that they heard then N-word. However, she did not use the word and her viewers misheard her while pronouncing the name of the character “Anivia”. This debate led to a clip from 2013 being resurfaced which caused havoc for the streamer.
Though Pokimane tried to defend herself through a tweet, it did not work out for her. The tweet read,
“hard for me to speak on this clip’s context because it’s so old (i’m almost 23 and was underage in that clip), but it was definitely not said in a racist or derogatory manner. it was a time period/environment where saying it was more common and used as a replacement for “dude”1/2”
At the time, many people argued that it didn’t matter when and why she used the slur as it was taboo and hurtful to a whole group of people.
2) Copyright Strike Controversy
Back in 2018, YouTube Bowblax posted a video where he talked about Pokimane’s feud with American YouTuber Keemstar. Upon seeing the video, Pokimane hit bowblax’s video with a copyright strike because he had used a lot of footage from her channel. She received a lot of backlash for threatening to strike a video by Fainted that criticized her.
Later, Pokimane uploaded a video where she apologized to Bowblax for taking such drastic actions against him. She also addressed the issue with YouTubers using her clips with misleading titles and thumbnails. She said that she would go after such videos that misrepresent her.
3) Pokimane Accidently Streamed A Dirty Movie
Twitch has a set of guidelines that one must strictly follow. Pokimane has experienced these consequences. Once while streaming, she was tricked into playing an adult movie on the platform. She received a stern warning from Twitch and the streamer clarified that she had not been banned from the platform.

4) Pokimane’s Cookie Controversy
In November 2023, Pokimane announced her collaboration with Myna Snacks to release Midnight Mini Cookies priced at $28. This price turned out to be really controversial for Pokimane. The backlash prompted Pokimane to speak up during a follow-up stream. She said,
“It’s four bags. That’s … $7 a bag. I know, I know math is hard when you’re an idiot, but like, if you’re a broke boy, just say so.”
Pokimane’s response infuriated everyone, and she earned a lot of backlash. People said that Poki’s cookies were a knock-off of cheaper snacks found at Costco. The streamer later apologized through a tweet on X.

5) Poki’s Feud With Leafy
Calvin or LeafyIsHere’s account was banned from YouTube when he posted a series of videos where he heavily criticized Pokimane. In the videos, he mocked and criticized Pokimane’s content and appearance. He also threatened to expose Pokimaine’s hidden relationship. These videos went viral instantly.
Later, Pokimane apologized for some of the incidents that were addressed by Leafy. She also clarified the situation saying that she had nothing to do with Leafy’s YouTube channel being banned.
