Marvel Rivals Closed Beta Test Crossplay Details

Cross-play is a feature that allows players to play together across various platforms. Marvel Rivals had a closed beta test (July 23, 2024-August 5, 2024) a few months ago. The beta version included limited cross-play support, which restricted PC players from matchmaking with console players (PS5 and Xbox X/S) in the Competitive mode. However, console players could match with each other without any issues.

Other modes such as Quick Match, Conquest, Custom Games (when not set as a competitive match), and the Practice vs AI modes supported full crossplay across all platforms. The inclusion of the cross-play feature at the beta test suggests that Marvel Rivals will support crossplay at the full launch too. However, it is uncertain whether this partially limited crossplay mechanism will be replaced or not.

Does Marvel Rivals Have Cross-Progression?

Another important feature that accompanies cross-play is cross-progression, which allows players to transfer the saved data from one platform to another, preserving their in-game progression. Unfortunately, Marvel Rivals will not likely feature cross-progression at launch, as per Marvel Rivals’s Creative Director, Guangyun Chen. In an exclusive with The Gamer at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, Guangyun Chen revealed that:

“For now, we have no cross-progression. As we only have around two months to go global launch, we are doing the final tech check to see what we can do and how we can process it. The workload is a lot more than we thought at the beginning”

He also added that they are still having an internal discussion about this highly requested feature, and it is uncertain when the decision will be made. Based on his comments, we can assume that Marvel Rivals will not feature cross-progression at least for the full launch.
