As a person who commands several other strong people in the series, how powerful is Imu in One Piece?
Imu’s actual strength in One Piece is unknown, but based on hints, the influence they command, and access to power, they are undeniably one of the strongest in the series. Let us take a closer look at this.
Who Is Imu in One Piece
Imu is the secret ruler of the World Government who overlooks every significant event in One Piece. There is heavy debate behind the character’s gender, with some fans believing them to be male due to raw translations seemingly referring to them with masculine pronouns. The other side still does not think this is substantive proof since this is yet to be properly confirmed in the series or by Oda. These fans also believe Imu’s silhouette depicts a female.

Why Is Imu So Feared
We don’t know much about Imu yet, but we know the fear they evoke among others. The Five Elders, one of the greatest powers in the world, quake in their presence. Imu has manipulated global politics to hide their own existence but still pulls the strings from the background.
For nothing but a test of a new Ancient Weapon, Imu was willing to wipe out the entire kingdom of Lulusia. We can also assume they condoned actions such as the destruction of Ohara. Imu has shown hatred towards almost everyone in the series, be it the Fish-Men, protagonists, or the revolutionaries.
They were willing to kill Jaygarcia Saturn with no hesitation when he failed to stop Luffy in Egghead. Due to their unpredictability, destructive capability, and negative emotions towards most, there is good reason for both fans and characters to fear Imu.
Imu’s Strengths and Abilities
As we have already seen, a great part of Imu’s real strength has yet to be revealed. We know they wield the highest political authority in the series. However, simple politics is not enough to make strong figures like the Gorosei bow down to them.
Imu has been shown capable of transforming into a large beastly creature that can consume fire and also wields a sharp arrow-like part. They used this to injure Sabo when he sneaked into the Government. Imu could also telepathically communicate with Saturn and kill him by stripping off his powers.
Their main weapon is a saber, which is yet to be used in combat. It currently serves the purpose of cutting down the posters of famous figures Imu has when they’re frustrated. The most dangerous power in their possession, however, is the control over the Ancient Weapon powered by the Mother Flame. This floats in the sky above any target and can annihilate islands within seconds.
Is Imu the Final Antagonist of One Piece
Many fans believe that Imu is being set up as the final antagonist of One Piece, and it is completely valid. The enigmatic character who sits at the top of the corrupt Government facing off against the Straw Hat Pirates seems like a match made in heaven.
As Luffy’s goal is directly connected to the Void Century and Imu is trying to erase all traces of it, it only makes sense that they will serve as the final obstacle before the Straw Hats find the One Piece. There are great theories of characters such as Blackbeard also being the main antagonist. At the same time, if Oda wishes to go with a villain that completely contrasts with Luffy, then Imu is a rightful choice.
Imu’s connection to Joy Boy, the Ancient Weapons, and the World Government places them at the heart of the series. Whether they will engage in direct combat or act as a puppet master remains to be seen, but we can trust that the figure will hold relevance till the very end.
