Marvel Rivals, a new superhero-themed hero shooter, is available on multiple platforms; check to see if you can run it on a Steam Deck or not.
Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play third-person shooter with a superhero twist, is finally available for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as Windows PCs. On PC, you can play the game through both Steam and Epic Games, so it naturally raises the question—will it run on the Steam Deck? Well, if you’re planning on playing the game on this handheld console, there’s good news for you.
Marvel Rivals is fully compatible with the Steam Deck. In fact, those who have tried it out on the console have reported excellent performance. So, here’s all you need to know about it.
Can Marvel Rivals Run on Steam Deck?
Marvel Rivals was officially launched on December 6, 2024, for PC and next-gen consoles. Since the game is available on Steam, many have been wondering if it runs on the Steam Deck. Not all Steam games support this handheld console, and many that run aren’t fully optimized. However, as mentioned by several Steam Deck users, the game seems to run quite well.
In the above post, Redditor “RepresentativeRuin55” has showcased Marvel Rivals running on their Steam Deck. According to the OP’s user flair, their device is a 1TB OLED Edition. Now, some players have mentioned a black screen bug with the game, and even the developers have addressed this. This can be solved if you use the Proton Experimental compatibility tool. Here’s how to turn it on:
- Choose Marvel Rivals and press Start.
- Go to Properties > Compatibility.
- Tick the check box next to “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.”
- Now select Proton Experimental from the drop-down menu.
In case this workaround doesn’t fix the issue, you’ll have to wait for an official hotfix. Meanwhile, if you run into performance issues, you might want to turn on FSR and Framegen. With FSR 3.1 set to Performance Mode and coupled with Frame Generation, you can get above 60 FPS (and up to 80-85 FPS) pretty easily.
