Demon Slayer is one of the most well-known modern Shonen titles. It has managed to capture the minds of millions of fans from across the globe. The Shonen genre has gained a ton of popularity since it serves as a gateway to the medium of anime and manga. Most fans like you and I grew up watching the likes of Goku and Vegeta spending hours of their time training and battling. The high-octane action, the sense of camaraderie, and the indomitable human spirit are some of the reasons why we fell in love with this genre.

Demon Slayer also checks most boxes when it comes to this genre. It has quite literally set the standard for animation because fans are treated to breathtaking visuals. The consistency in the animation is mind-boggling, to say the least. There are plenty of things that this anime title does right. Therefore, we believe that every anime fan who loves Shonen should watch the Demon Slayer series. The story is so simple that a literal child can understand it. While some might criticize it, the simplicity adds to the charm of the series. It takes the basic elements of a good Shonen title and absolutely nails every single brief.

Demon Slayer has some of the most stunning visuals. There are very few anime titles that can produce the visuals that these guys have done over the course of the past few years. This is when most Attack on Titan fans chime in about the plot, stating that it’s very straightforward and boring. While some might like the dizzying back and forth from various timelines, Demon Slayer has none of that. Demons exist; they need to be killed, and people train to do so. That’s literally the plot of the whole story. However, characters drive the narrative and not the plot. The characters are complex, fleshed out, and downright lovable. The interactions in the series feel extremely organic.

Koyoharu Gotouge put on an absolute masterclass with the way characters are written. Tanjiro’s constant optimism can get on our nerves at times. However, that’s quite rare, and he has shown moments of desperation as well. Watching Inosuke’s antics takes you back to the time when you spent time with the class clown during your childhood. The jokes are well-timed, and they give fans just the right amount of relief. It’s hard to write comedy when the story is set in a world where death is constant.

The music scores in this anime are hauntingly beautiful. It evokes the intended emotions, which is why the emotional impact is so potent in this anime series. The voice actors have done a phenomenal job. This is an example of a show that has taken a few fundamental elements of Shonen and executed them to perfection.

What do you as, a fan, expect from a good Shonen title? Entertaining fights, well-written characters, a sense of camaraderie, moments that hype you up, comedic relief, and stunning visuals, to name a few. Demon Slayer offers all of the above. Daki and Gyutaro’s fight against the demon hunters will go down as one of the best fights in the history of all Shonen titles. This fight hyped people up in a way that nobody saw coming. Do you like comedy? Watch Inosuke be his usual self around his comrades. If you’re a fan of the odd side character who is ridiculously powerful and has anger issues, Demon Slayer has you covered. It’s not about nailing every single element that we’ve mentioned in this article. While that is important, it’s also essential to package it in a manner that’s easy to consume. Demon Slayer gets you hooked from the very first episode, something most shows fail to do. This is why Demon Slayer is a show that every anime fan needs to watch at some point.

In short, yes. Many of us tend to be over-the-top anime fans, and we make it our entire personality. Truth is a hard pill to swallow. But there are fans who are quite passionate about the medium. It has a unique method of storytelling, and that’s one of the reasons why anime is on the world map today. For die-hard fans of the medium, is Demon Slayer essential? Yes, it is absolutely necessary. First and foremost, it is an entertaining show to watch. It’s one of those shows you can enjoy even if you want to turn your brain off. As mentioned earlier, Demon Slayer is so simple that a literal child will understand.

It has an active community filled with people who cosplay, put out fan art, discuss various parts of the story, and even attend conventions. There is a sense of community given the popularity of the title. As an Otaku, you probably cover yourself in anime merchandise. Demon Slayer has incredible character designs, which lend themselves well to merchandise options. These are some of the reasons why Demon Slayer is necessary if you’re an Otaku.

What To Expect (and What Not to) When You Watch Demon Slayer

You can expect some of the most entertaining fights that will leave you punching the air in excitement. The visuals will leave you gasping. The character interactions are hilarious and heartwarming. This is a show that you can watch no matter the mood you’re in. There are certain shows that you can watch when you’re in a certain mood. However, this is a show that is so versatile and entertaining that you don’t have to rely on being in a certain state of mind to enjoy it. The emotional impact is great, which means you will shed a few tears while watching the show.

However, the Demon Slayer series also let go of certain Shonen tropes, which positively impacted the show. Most Shonen titles will have protagonists who will single-handedly beat the main villain. This is not the case with Demon Slayer. Tanjiro Kamado isn’t even close to being the strongest in the series. It relies less on the individual’s strength and more on the team effort of all the combatants present there. The “power of Nakama” doesn’t miraculously kill villains. Heroes die, and it takes the combined efforts of all the characters to beat most villains in this series.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Demon Slayer is a show that every anime fan should watch. It’s an entertaining show with a simple plot. It caters to people of all ages and offers something entertaining to each and every one of them. Demon Slayer’s success is a testament to its entertainment value. If you like hype fight scenes, comedy, well-written characters, and hauntingly beautiful soundtracks, then Demon Slayer is for you. Demon Slayer is one of the very few titles where the anime adaptation is better than the manga.
