2024 was a wild year for Asmongold, one of the biggest streamers on Twitch. His unapologetic behavior found him in the middle of a lot of drama and got severe backlash. 2024 was a big year for Asmon as he was in a lot of controversies.

Earlier this year, Asmon made headlines for his remarks on Rivers_GG, a popular streamer who won the Streamer of the Year award over Kai Cenat, IShowSpeed, and CaseOh. Asmon stated that Rivers only won because “she is a woman”; this did not sit well with the community. Asmon received significant backlash for his statements from streamers and viewers alike.

In October 2024, Zack sparked outrage during a livestream while discussing the ongoing Gaza conflict. He made derogatory remarks, describing Palestinian civilians as “terrible people” and labeling their culture as “inferior.” His comments dismissed the human cost of the conflict. Clips of his statements quickly went viral and triggered a storm on social media. Fellow streamers, fans, and critics expressed their shock and disappointment.

In the wake of the comments made, Twitch issued a 14-day ban on Zack’s alternate Twitch account, Zackrawrr, which currently boasts 1.97M followers. However, Asmon’s main account, Asmongold, remained active. Twitch cited violations of its hateful conduct policy mentioned in the terms of services, but many felt the punishment was insufficient given the severity of his remarks.

Community’s Reaction to Asmongold’s Controversies

Hasanabi called him out on his stream, telling him to stop spreading misinformation and actually talk to real people. BrookeAB and Kaceytron wanted Twitch to take stricter actions. OTK co-founders distanced themselves from the comments.

Tips Out, an OTK co-founder, shared a heartfelt statement about his experiences as a first-generation immigrant, condemning the dehumanizing language Asmongold used.

Following the backlash, Asmongold issued an apology on social media, admitting he was “too much of an a**hole” in his comments. While he attempted to clarify that no one deserves harm, his casual tone and phrasing, such as “My bad,” were criticized as dismissive.

“I think that I could be a lot better than what I am right now… I’m sorry” said Asmongold in an apology video regarding the situation.

Asmongold has since stepped down from his duties for OTK and Starforge systems.
