Learn all that you need to know about defeating Lachlann of Endless Lament during your playthrough of Path of Exile 2 (PoE2).
Path of Exile 2 has many formidable enemies, and you will eventually have to defeat them as you progress through the game’s story. One of the first major bosses you will encounter is Lachlann of Endless Lament, at the end of Act 1. This boss has a rather tragic backstory and is actually the morphed form of an NPC from the Sorrow Among Stones quest.
Lachlann is a difficult boss fight for this phase of the game, and this is mainly because of his somewhat complex attacks. In this boss guide, we will explain how you can defeat Lachlann of Endless Lament in Path of Exile 2. We will discuss some movement strategies and attacking patterns so that you have an easier time against this boss.
Lachlann of Endless Lament Path of Exile 2 Boss Guide
Lachlann of Endless Lament guards the path forward in the Cemetery of the Eternals. However, you will have to defeat some other bosses to gain access to him. Once you defeat Draven the Eternal Praetor and Asinia the Praetor’s Consort, you will obtain a key to unlock the Memorial Gate. This in turn will grant you access to the Memorial of The Lost, where you actually fight Lachlann of Endless Lament in Path of Exile 2.
For a boss, Lachlann is aggressive and uses complex attacks. His attacks leave ice trails, and he uses “soul projectiles” as his main weapon. The ice trails slow you down considerably when you step on them, meaning it affects your mobility. Before we dissect Lachlann’s moveset and how you should approach him, the central tomb that you see is going to be key to this fight and your survival.
Here are the details on Lachlann’s moveset and how you should strategize against them:
Dual Slam Attack
Lachlann’s opening move is a grand slam with his idol-fused arm, which can deal a significant amount of damage. There is an alternate variant to this, which you can sometimes activate if you are near him. For this, he will slam his arm into the ground in a wide area, and then immediately slam it behind him as well.
If you use a ranged class like the Sorceress, this attack does not harm you in any way since you are going to stay at a distance anyway. On the other hand, if you are a melee or any other close-ranged class, you should always remain at his side to effectively dodge it.
Lachlann of Endless Lament also yells out “My rage burns” right before initiating the attack, which you can use as an audio cue in Path of Exile 2. However, there is not enough time to react after hearing this, hence staying at his side from the beginning is ideal.
Soul Projectile Attack Variant 1
For this variant, the ground around Lachlann will start to glow, and souls will emerge from it. The glowing ground beneath Lachlann’s feet is the visual cue for this, and you must keep an eye out for the same. The boss will then shoot these souls towards you, which will also leave a trail of ice on the ground. Getting hit by these will deal massive damage, and stepping on the ice will also slow you down.
The central tomb is your savior for this attack. The moment you see the visual cue for this soul projectile attack, reposition and put the central tomb between you and Lachlann of Endless Lament in Path of Exile 2. The tomb will block the souls and also stop the ice trail that it creates.
Soul Projectile Attack Variant 2
For this attack, Lachlann of Endless Lament will extend his hand, and his palm will start to glow in Path of Exile 2. Then, the boss will summon souls from the ground beneath your feet. The souls will rise up and come crashing down on you. This attack also deals damage twice, once during the rising and once during the fall. After the souls fall, a spot of ice will also be created at the same spot.
Unlike the previous attack which gave you time to dodge, you will need to be faster for this. The glowing palm is your visual cue, and you must dodge-roll twice to avoid being hit by both instances of this attack.
Homing Soul Attack
This is a much more aggressive attack, and Lachlann of Endless Lament will use it only after you have dropped him to at least half HP. The boss will stomp on the ground to create a small fissure in front of him. A soul will eventually arise from this fissure, and it will chase you like a homing missile. Once it reaches you, it will try to circle you for five seconds, and then plunge back into the ground. You will take damage for all instances of this, and the soul also leaves an ice trail when chasing you, along with creating an ice spot when it slams back into the ground.
You can try to keep moving and once again dodge-roll at the right moment to avoid the crashing attack. However, this is a very difficult attack to dodge completely, and you might eventually take some damage from this attack of Lachlann of Endless Lament in Path of Exile 2.
Earthquake Attack
Taking a break from his soul projectile attacks, Lachlann of Endless Lament once again slams the ground to create a huge landslide that looks like spikes. This attack will also trigger the warning stinger on your screen. If it manages to hit you, it will do a massive amount of damage and might even finish you off in some cases.
Dodge-rolling is the only effective way to avoid this attack. If you are using a melee class in Path of Exile 2, you should immediately attack his flanks right after the warning stinger to counterattack and deal some damage yourself.
