In this guide, we’ll discuss what is Spirit, how to use and obtain it while progressing in the game.
What is Spirit in Path of Exile 2
Spirit is a resource that is used to maintain always ways on abilities. Examples are auras and buffs like Arctic armor and permanent minions like skeletons and when activating some meta gem with the linked skill that requires spirit. The interface of spirit is straightforward as it has a bar along the top saying how much spirit is left to use and an icon of the abilities with an up and down arrow.
Click the arrow to assign the spirit to assign spirit to that ability. Buffs and auras will simply be an on-and-off option but for minions, you can add more than one. Currently, there are few ways to get spirit in the early access. You can also enhance the spirit when you progress through the campaign and defeat bosses or by equipping a few specific items. Spirit in Path of Exile 2 works differently than Life and Mana as Spirit is taken away from the pool when used.
How to Obtain Spirit in Path of Exile 2
Path of Exile 2 offers two different methods to obtain Spirit – items and progression. The game offers limited ways to gain Spirit in the early access but we can see more methods to gain Spirit after full releases of this RPG.
Here are all the methods to get Spirit in POE 2.
- Spirit through Equipping Items
- Spirit through Progression
1. Spirit through Equipping Items
The easiest way to get spirit is to run a Scepter. Each scepter has 100 spirits on it which can be seen just below the word Scepter in the details. The scepter can also drop with a perk that will increase the percentage of Spirit on that object.
For example, the perk can be an extra 33% more Spirit which can take the total amount up to 133. You can equip a Scepter in your offhand and use one in your main hand together with a shield in the offhand. However, you cannot dual-wield two Scepters to boost your spirit pool.
You can also get the spirit from solar amulets, and chest armor and there is a 3rd act boss you can get a passive stat for the spirit too. You can get an aura or a minion skill from a Scepter as the Scepter skill does not detain any Spirit when it would have reserved Spirit while using a skill gem yourself in the game. However, linking Clarity (Support Gem) reserves 10 additional Spirit because the aura itself does not cost Spirit to use.
You are unable to use all of your reservations if different weapon sets provide you variation of spirit. Swap weapons to test your weapons before taking your build into combat or boss fight. Keep a keen eye for the scepters and solar amulets if you’re a sorceress or a witch, get one through a random gear merchant.
2. Spirit through Progression
The other known way to increase your Spirit is the side bosses in the open world. The first side boss is in Act 1 and this boss is called King of the Mists and is located in Freythorn. Upon killing the boss, he drops an item that you can consume that will give you 30 Spirit. You can also obtain spirit by defeating Ignagduk, the Bog Witch in The Azak Bog (Act 3) and it grants +30 Spirit. You can fight this boss again in Act 6 on a more difficult level for an additional skull. Defeat Ignagduk, the Bog Witch in The Azak Bog (Act 6 — Cruel Difficulty) to gain +40 spirit. Once you defeat all of these bosses, then a consumable that boosts your spirit will drop onto the ground.
The Beidat’s Will reserves 25% of your life but also grants +1 Spirit per 25 maximum Life but this ability is detained for Infernalist class. However, the regular passive does not enhance spirit in Path of Exile 2. Infernalist Ascendancy is from the Witch class and each class has two Ascendancies that offer unique skills to play the game.
How to use Spirit
Spirit in Path of Exile 2 is enhanced slowly as progresses through the game unlike other resources like HP and Mana that continuously decrease or increase. It takes time to build a high Spirit stat for your character, so you need to progress without spirit for a while. You can use the spirit of the following.
- Equip Gems- You need spirit to activate meta gems.
- Auras- These passive abilities require a required amount of spirit to activate. Use weapons like an automatic shield that can resemble your playstyle.
- Permanent minions- You need some amount of spirit to get permanent minions at your side.
Equip a spirit-based skill to allocate spirit and then activate it. Press the LMB on the permanent minion skill and choose the set minion count. You can select the number of minions that you want depending on the spirit you contain. The Spirit allocation system is called Spirit Reservation, similar to the Life and Mana reservations.
