As you survive the co-op survival challenge Abiotic Factor throws at you, Power is a vital component you need. Your day-to-day activities require being backed up by electricity, whether you are looking to Cook, Craft, Repair, Butcher, and more. Some static base defense structures require Power.

In this guide, we will discuss Power in Abiotic Factor.

Power in Abiotic Factor

Power Outlet

The most common way you can power your Crafting Bench, Repair and Salvage Station, Portable Stove, or the trusty Chopinator is through Power Outlets scattered throughout the map.

However, they can only provide Power to one structure at a time.

Keep in mind, there is a regular Power outage from 9 PM to 6 AM, shrouding the entire map in darkness (the portals stay unaffected). Power Outlets will cease to function during those times. Power Outlets have a range, meaning you cannot Power components that are beyond their range.

Portable Power and Power Storage

Good news, the concept of stored energy prevails in Abiotic Factor, and you will need it. Whether to run a Chopinator, a Heater in the extreme cold, a trap for base defense, or a Refrigerator to keep your perishable food fresh, stored energy is your best friend. It is especially useful during a Power outage or in areas without Power Outlets.

Makeshift Batteries

You can craft your own Makeshift Batteries in Abiotic Factor. The following are the components you must take to a Crafting Bench to make a Makeshift Battery:

  • 1x Energy Brick (crafted with a Power Supply Unit, Circuit Board, Tech Scrap, and Case Fan).
  • 1x Coil
  • 2x Metal Scraps.

The Makeshift Batteries are your portable Power Outlets. However, these must be charged. You can charge them by hooking them up to a Power Outlet. The two vertical bars on a Makeshift Battery will show you the charging progression. They have a capacity of 50 units. They, too, can power one component at a time.

Other Batteries

You may have noticed a pattern in the game so far: any item that has a ‘Makeshift’ version has a full-fledged version as well. The same goes for Batteries. There are three versions of such Batteries so far. They are:

Battery NameCapacityRecipe
Battery (Industrial)1001x Power Cell, 2x Rebar, 1x Air Compressor, and 2x Metal Scraps
Battery (Carbon)3501x Battery (Industrial), 1x Memory Brick, 2x Refined Carbon, 2x Leyak Essence
Battery (Quantum)7002x Battery (Carbon), 1x Digital Gold, 2x Transuranic Superalloy, 4x Frozen Essence

All Batteries require Tech Scraps to be repaired.

Cable Reroute

As we have mentioned, a Power Outlet has a certain range. However, there is a way you can go beyond the assigned range through Cable Reroute.

You must have at least one Tech Scrap in your inventory to use this. When you have a cable from a Power Outlet, simply pressing fire will allow you to double your range at the cost of one Tech Scrap.

Plug Strip

The “one component at a time” limitation of Power Outlets and Batteries can be eradicated with Plug Strips. These have three cable slots, allowing three Power-consuming components to run at a time. Couple this with Cable Reroutes and build a complex circuitry of electronics in your base.

Plug Strips need to be crafted. Take 1 Power Supply, 1 Coil, and 2 Metal Scraps to a Crafting Bench to craft this invaluable item.
