Abyssus lets you unlock several interesting weapons throughout the course of the game. One of the earliest weapons you can unlock is the Shotgun. It is a devastating weapon at close range and can be highly effective throughout the game. In this guide, we’ll reveal a build that supports using the Shotgun throughout the game, allowing for maximum damage from the weapon. We’ll also outline the abilities, Charms, and Aspects that pair perfectly when going for this specific build.

After unlocking the Shotgun by defeating the mini boss at the Abandoned Temple, you’ll be able to use it freely. It has a primary and a secondary firing mode, and both modes share the same pool of ammo. You can tailor the primary and secondary fire modes to suit your build. Speaking of builds, you’ll want to get up close and personal when creating the Shotgun build. The weapon doesn’t perform all that well when the distance between you and your foes increases.

Since you’ll be in close quarters a lot of the time, we recommend using primary and secondary firing modes that are best at crowd control and have a great firing rate.

Firing TypeFire ModeUnlock ConditionsEffects
Full AutomaticPrimaryComplete a quadruple kill with the Shotgun.Transforms the weapon into a fully automatic gun, increasing firing rate considerably.
Pressure ShotSecondaryTraverse at least 1000 meters with the Knockback ability of the weapon.Secondary firing mode stuns enemies, ensuring easy crowd control.

Beyond just customizing the weapon itself, you’ll also have to focus on other aspects to make the perfect Shotgun build in the game.

Best Ability

We suggest using the Anchor ability with this build. Since you’ll be at close range with your enemies most of the time, the Anchor ability can help you deal damage and take out any foes still left standing while you need to reload the Shotgun.

Best Charms

It’s difficult to choose the exact charms you want because these are randomly generated during every run. However, if luck favors you, make sure to get the following Charms for this build whenever you get the chance.

  • Bandage: There’s a small chance that you’ll not take any damage from some attacks.
  • Gun Meets Face: You will inflict 25% more damage to enemies at close range, which means at a distance not exceeding 10 meters.

Best Aspects

Like charms, Aspects are also random in each run. So, you might not get the opportunity to customize them exactly as you want. Still, they are a very important part of the Shotgun build in Abyssus. Make sure you opt for the following Aspect categories whenever you can if you’re playing such a build.

Aspect CategoryBest SlotEffects
BarrierPrimaryBarrier Aspects will help you limit your HP loss whenever you are engaged in close-quarter combat with enemies.
FrostSecondarySince our recommended secondary firing mode has the ability to stun enemies, it’s great to pair it with Frost Aspects. These will freeze enemies, enhancing your ability to control larger enemy swarms further.
TentaclesAbilityTentacles can help make up for the relatively slower firing rate of Shotgun builds. Also, being close to the Tentacles allows you to capitalize on damage bonuses triggered from being close to allies. In this case, the game counts the Tentacles as your allies.
