Keep a record of all the followers you gain in Metaphor ReFantazio over the course of your journey. Learn how to gain their trust and complete their bonds.
Keeping track of all the Metaphor ReFantazio followers can be a tedious task since not every one of them is tied to the main story progression. You may have to go overboard and complete side quests to recruit some. However, the storyline is almost always worth the effort, especially if you are somewhat of a completionist. To satisfy your curiosity, we have created a list of all the followers that you can cross-check to make sure you have all of them backing you up.
There are a total of 14 followers that you can gain. Six on the list are your party members. One assists you in battles and guides you through cutscenes and dialogues. The remaining seven followers are present on the sidelines to support the protagonist. There are a total of 8 Ranks to unlock as you bond with your followers by doing their story quests.
1. Gallica
This is the first-ever follower you will gain when you start a new Metaphor ReFantazio campaign. Gallica is a fairy. Literally. She is not a playable character, nor can she attack opponents on your behalf. However, she makes for a good tactical drone as she can scan for enemies when needed and assist in other ways as well.
Gallica is the only Metaphor ReFantazio follower who cannot be ranked up by following an independent side quest line. Instead, you have to progress through the main story to help her reach her true potential in the base game.
2. Strohl
The first time you will have an alternate playable character in the story besides the human protagonist, it’s going to be Strohl. He will join your party pretty early on in the game when you are busy at the Northern Border Fort. This also happens to be the first dungeon in the game that players come across.
Hang out with your second friend long enough to keep ranking him up until you trigger A Noble’s Legacy quest. This usually happens when the bond has reached Rank 5. Keep on the path and you will have him reach the max rank in no time.
3. More
More is another follower that you gain while progressing through the main story of the game. The reason is that he resides in the Akademia. So, it makes sense that we don’t need to go the extra mile to make him a follower. Keep studying Archetypes and fulfilling their conditions to keep him content. Also, don’t forget to develop bonds with other followers as well. This will in-turn help complete More’s quests.
Get either of these followers to Rank 7 to ultimately get what you desire: Maria, Brigitta, Neuras, and Bardon. Once you complete the bonding with More, he will reward you with the Evangelist Archetype.
4. Maria
During your playthrough, you will also get to play as Grius for a short while. He is not a permanent character in the story and never becomes a follower. His daughter, however, will immediately become an ally to the player as part of the main story. She is under the care of the proprietor of the Hushed Honeybee Inn.
Ranking her up isn’t an easy task. Some of the ranks will only be leveled up if you bring her the artwork that Neuras draws. She seems like somebody who appreciates art and nature. Maria is an important character because we wouldn’t have the Healer Archetype without her.
5. Hulkenberg
Hulkenberg is also a party member who happens to be one of your first few Metaphor ReFantazio followers. Before stepping into the Regalith Grand Cathedral, you will have your first meeting with the embodiment of the Knight Archetype.
You need to keep an eye on your Wisdom level. Stay on level 4 on this scale until she gets to Rank 7. After that, you have to actively pursue Wisdom to rank her up. This is not going to be an easy task, but it’s your call in the end.
6. Brigitta
Brigitta owns an igniter shop in Grand Trad. You can spot her outside the shop a few times, but this is of no use because she won’t join you in your cause until the king has passed away. Check whether you have Wisdom Rank 2. If you do, congratulations! You can accept A Bullish Embargo quest from her and make her a friend.
Even progressing her to Rank 5 will require you to be on Courage Level 3. Her final bond event can spoil the story for you. So, let’s leave out that part for now. It’s best if you explore it on your own!
7. Catherina
If you find yourself going through Grand Trad’s Mausoleum, chances are you have already come across Catherina. She is not going to be a member of your party, but you will run into her again while progressing your story. These brief interactions will let you reach Rank 6 with her. After that, you will need to be on Level 5 Tolerance to rank her up. By this time, she will be present in Altabury Heights. So, you don’t need to worry about time running out.
8. Neuras
Neuras is one more follower on the list who won’t be able to help you in combat directly. But, he has an elaborate collectible quest in store for you. Collecting his eight lost relics can be a painful task if you don’t know where and how to look for them. Thankfully, we have got you covered for that as well.
Completing the entire Providing a Spark quest will let you get him up to Rank 8. This will help you in return because he will unlock several cool Archetypes along the way.
9. Heismay
Heismay won’t join your team until you are well into the game already. He may look adorable, but, let us warn you. He doesn’t bring a friendly vibe to the table. Unless you are his ally, of course. He is an agile character, which makes him well-suited for Archetypes like Assassin and Thief.
A few days after you have completed your time in Kriegante Castle, you can begin Heismay’s onboarding. His bond is also a bit demanding. For the second rank, you will need Level 2 Eloquence. As for the seventh rank, you will have to have an Imagination level of 4.
10. Alonzo
Alonzo’s character is as eerie as he looks. You will first meet him in Martira. Then, if you improve his bond, you can see him again in Thoroughfare Square. By this time, he will no longer be called Alonzo in the game. Yes. The game alters his name to the Pompous Man.
His follower bonds will require you to take on different chores and can be pretty demanding in terms of Imagination, Tolerance, and Wisdom levels. He will also require leveling up Royal Virtues. Good luck with this one!
11. Bardon
Here is another Martira resident. You will see him first time when starting the said arc in this location. Once you are done with the Kriegnate Castle story, chat with him again to kickstart his follower arc.
Build up your Eloquence level to 3 before completing his fifth bond. Then, he will eventually give you the quest The Right to Rule to get to the final rank as well.
12. Junah
Junah is another party member who will join forces with you during your journey. When you reach the end of Charadrius in Port Brilehaven main quest, you will finally be eligible to meet Junah. Wait till the Virga arc to start bonding with her. After completing another main story quest Obtain Drakodios, you will have a side quest from your new friend waiting for you, called Save the Mournik Snakes.
Finish the mission in question to get Junah’s bond running. Get to Imagination Level 4 before reaching her Rank 6. After this, the road shouldn’t be too troublesome.
13. Eupha
This Metaphor ReFantazio follower is the only romance option that players will have in the game. So, do try to get Eupha on board. After the Dragon Temple dungeon part in the Virga Island storyline, you can complete a quest to gain Eupha as a follower.
Her Eloquence level and Wisdom level demands can also be pretty demanding. To progress to the seventh rank, you will need to first wrap up the Wayward Shepherd quest. Reaching the last rank with her will be something special.
14. Basilio
Do you enjoy the enemies-to-friends trope when it comes to fiction? Then you will love Basilio’s arc. When you meet him while traveling to Martira, he won’t be a fan of the protagonist. He is pretty late to the party, so his fear of missing out may be part of the reason.
You just have to talk to him to kickstart his follower arc once he is on the Gauntlet Runner. As you are reaching the final steps of his rank, Basilio will have a quest for you. This ‘frenemy’ will soon become one of your most loyal followers.
These are all the followers that you meet in the game. Whether the game lets you keep them in the party or not, each of them has something unique to offer, which we want you to explore on your own. Let’s just say, if you are an Archetype collector, you would want to get every follower on the deck.
