Rumors of a new AMD CPU first started when a Chiphell forum member, Huggable Carrot, spotted the mention of “Upcoming CPU” in the BIOS update changelog of an ASUS AM5 motherboard. According to this user, it should be a 9000 series CPU. This led some people to speculate that it could be a new 9000G series APU, but that was not the case. MEGAsizeGPU, @Zed__Wang on X, has reportedly leaked the model to be Ryzen 7 9700F.

MEGAsizeGPU has accurately predicted the names and launches of previous AMD products, so this leak holds a lot of credibility. Also, given the fact that BIOS support for new CPUs only appears a few weeks before their launch, the release of the upcoming Ryzen processor may not be far away.

In this article, we will discuss all the juicy details and everything you need to know about it.

Judging by the model number, the Ryzen 7 9700F is likely a Zen 5-based CPU. The “F” at the end indicates that it lacks the iGPU, which is otherwise included in all other Ryzen 9000 series CPUs. Therefore, this processor must be paired with a dedicated graphics card to boot. Also, since this processor shares the same model number as the existing Ryzen 7 9700X, it is likely to have similar specifications but with different clock speeds and no iGPU.

Specs

Here are preliminary specs of the upcoming Ryzen 7 9700F based on the leaked info and its similarity to the Ryzen 7 9700X:

SpecificationsDetails
ArchitectureZen 5
Cores8
Threads18
Max clock speedTBD
L3 cache32MB
RAM supportDDR5-5600
Integrated GPUN/A
Thermal design power (TDP)65W Typical | 88W Max
Manufacturing nodes4nm, 6nm

The AMD Ryzen 7 9700F is expected to feature an 8-core/16-thread CPU with the same 32MB cache and 65W TDP as the current Ryzen 7 9700X. However, the clock speeds will likely differ. If it has only 100 to 200 MHz lower clocks, it will be extremely competitive in the budget category.

Potential Pricing and Release Date

AMD’s F-class processors are usually cheaper than its non-F CPUs. The Ryzen 7 9700X was launched at $359, but it is currently available for around $305 to $310. Therefore, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700F should cost somewhere between $249 and $299. As for its release date, the upcoming AMD CPU is expected to launch in the next two to four weeks.
