Who Is Frieren in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End?
Frieren is the protagonist of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, who served as the Mage in the party that managed to defeat the Demon King. Forced to live a long life as an elf, she never cared about the worth of connections and the rapid nature of time. She meets the hero Himmel and joins him in helping humans and removing the danger of the Demons.
Upon defeating the Demon King, the Hero Party happily reunite several years later, shortly after which Himmel passes away. Frieren, who was apathetic till this point, regrets her actions of not reaching out to others. Despite realizing that a short moment in her lifespan was a long time for humans, she wishes to create meaningful connections.
Hence, Frieren sets off on yet another adventure and creates her own party with promising young followers such as Fern and Stark. On their path, they run into several Demons, who used to serve the Demon King and Frieren will have to shake off the rust to protect the world again.

Why Is Frieren Called The Slayer?

In the current timeline, we have seen her battle the likes of Qual and Aura. Here, she has no problem with stealing their techniques and making them die brutally without ever giving them the benefit of the doubt.
During her travels with the Hero Party, she was said to be much more violent against Demons, giving her the title of “The Slayer.” This is also a neat play on words using the Japanese name of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Sousou no Frieren. Sousou refers to sending off the dead to the cemetery. While one interpretation of this is Frieren seeing her friends pass away, another refers to the number of Demons she has killed. Hence, this metaphor also points to her being Frieren the Slayer or Frieren the Undertaker.
Frieren’s Strengths and Abilities
Frieren is over 1000 years old and is extremely curious about magic in general. This curiosity has caused her to become extremely knowledgeable and powerful in her life. She has a ridiculous amount of mana and is also proficient at wielding and concealing it.
Due to her knowledge, Frieren has a high level of analytical abilities and has fortified her own defenses to resist spells. Resultantly, she is able to rapidly counter any spells, and most mental attacks don’t affect her.
Frieren has spent most of her life traveling the world and collecting grimoires and spells. This has given her an unparalleled amount of offensive and protective abilities. Her most popular ability, Zoltraak, shoots a large blast of mana and destroys anything in its path. Is Frieren the Strongest Mage in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End?
Frieren is undoubtedly one of the strongest and most skilled Mages in the series. However, based on those who are currently alive, we cannot call her the single strongest.
This is because of the existence of yet another elf named Serie, called the Great Mage from the Mythical Era. Serie is known for being a living grimoire who knows almost every spell in existence. She is skilled in every kind of magic and has no noticeable weaknesses.
Frieren, on the other hand, has admitted to her mana detection being weakened after she casts a spell. Serie’s restrained mana output is also noted to be equal to the total of Frieren’s mana.
While the two haven’t fought each other in the anime or manga yet, based on the information available, Frieren does not match up to Serie currently.
