In the chaotic and cursed world of Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuki Tsukumo stands out as one of the most memorable and enigmatic characters in spite of her brief role in the overarching narrative. Despite being one of the only four Special Grade sorcerers introduced in the series, her motivations and ideology deviated vastly from that of the other characters.

It’s also important to note that in spite of being recognized as a Special Grade by Jujutsu High, Yuki Tsukumo is not aligned with them. As a result, she gained a reputation of being the only Special Grade sorcerer who doesn’t take on missions. However, the reason behind this is simply because Yuki didn’t agree with the higher-up’s methods and has a rebellious attitude towards the traditional jujutsu society itself. She acts as per her own views on the role of curses in the world and thus works towards a curse-free world in her own way without relying on Jujutsu High.

At a point in time prior to Satoru Gojo’s awakening in the Hidden Inventory arc, Yuki Tsukumo was widely considered to be the strongest sorcerer of the modern era. Her designation as a Special Grade sorcerer places her in the upper echelon of sorcerers whose abilities surpass most others. She also excelled as a mentor in spite of not being a teacher at Jujutsu High, seeing as how she mentored Aoi Todo into an exceptionally powerful Grade 1 sorcerer after introducing him to the world of sorcery.

Yuki was an extremely formidable fighter who possessed a plethora of unorthodox abilities that set her apart from the other Special Grade sorcerers. While not being as crucial to the narrative as Gojo, Yuki had displayed her strength against some of the strongest opponents available. For instance, she effortlessly repelled Uraume’s Icefall technique by only using her shikigami, Garuda, in the Shibuya Incident arc.

Her first and final battle in the Culling Game arc saw her displaying the full scale of her destructive abilities against Kenjaku. During the battle, Yuki effortlessly exorcised one of his Special Grade curses with her first attack. Furthermore, her efficient usage of Reverse Cursed Technique paired with her superhuman endurance and pain tolerance allowed her to survive devastating attacks and almost bring Kenjaku down. What’s more, in her final attack, Yuki used her innate technique to transform into a black hole that had the potential to destroy the entire world. The fatal consequences of using this technique might have even allowed her to defeat Sukuna, albeit it would have come at the cost of causing irreparable damage to the world.

As seen in her battle against Kenjaku, Yuki is primarily a close-quarters combatant who combines her expert fighting capabilities with her innate technique to unleash devastating attacks on her opponent. In fact, she was able to mostly dominate Kenjaku in hand-to-hand combat, outmaneuvering and nearly defeating him at close range.

Apart from her great tactical intellect, Yuki also had an exceptionally high pain tolerance and a level of endurance that enabled her to fight through grave injuries. Her innate cursed technique, Star Rage, allowed her to grant virtual mass to herself and her shikigami, Garuda. As a result of this technique, the virtual mass added to her and Garuda’s attacks made them all the more destructive.

Yuki also displayed proficient usage of Reverse Cursed Technique, which she used to heal herself from the damage done to her body from Kenjaku’s attacks. She was also seen using Simple Domain in the battle, which is an anti-domain technique that takes away a Domain’s sure-hit attacks by targeting and neutralizing its barrier. Although her shikigami, Garuda, becomes a cursed tool for her to use in battle, it can also fight and restrain opponents alongside Yuki. Lastly, Yuki was also said to have possessed a Domain Expansion, which she unfortunately didn’t get to use against Kenjaku.

Yuki’s Notable Feats in Jujutsu Kaisen

While she did play a crucial role in the story as a mentor to Aoi Todo, Yuki Tsukumo’s most iconic moments took place during her final stand against Kenjaku in the Culling Game arc. Although she was unable to take the ancient sorcerer down in battle, she proved exactly why she was once considered to be the strongest sorcerer of the modern era. Her immense strength and indomitable will to fight through bone-shattering injuries were on full display during the fight.

Yuki also showcased her mastery of hand-to-hand combat in this battle, as she managed to overwhelm Kenjaku and nearly defeated him in close-quarters combat. In fact, she even had Kenjaku questioning at the initial stages of the fight if he could actually succeed in taking down a beast like her. She was even able to fight against him on even terms with a mangled body.

After being outmaneuvered by Kenjaku and having her body slashed in half, Yuki tried to take him down with a last-ditch effort, where she used her innate technique to transform into a black hole that could have devoured the entire world. By far, this was perhaps her most impressive feat in the series.

Yuki Tsukumo put up a valiant effort against Kenjaku and proved her own strength as a Special Grade sorcerer in her final battle. However, she met an unfortunate end when her body was bifurcated by Kenjaku. That said, Yuki decided to fight to the bitter end, as in her final moments, she put everything on the line in order to take Kenjaku down once and for all.

She improvised a maneuver by using her Star Rage technique to transform herself into a black hole, which was capable of destroying the whole world. However, she was able to suppress its power with her final breath, which prevented an unimaginable catastrophe. Unfortunately, Kenjaku was able to survive this attack by using the Antigravity System technique, which he had obtained from Yuji Itadori’s mother, Kaori Itadori.

In conclusion, Yuki Tsukumo’s character in Jujutsu Kaisen stands as a symbol of immense strength and rebellion against traditional norms. She not only rejected the outdated notions of the higher-ups, but she also strived to protect the world in her own image by breaking away from cursed energy entirely. While she did not have any particular allegiances to anyone, Yuki mostly tried to be supportive of her allies by encouraging them with her outspoken personality, which cemented her as one of the most unforgettable and beloved characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.
