Who Is the Ant King in Solo Leveling?
The Ant King is the main antagonist of the Jeju Island Arc of Solo Leveling and a terrifying mutated ant created by the Ant Queen. Unlike the other ants, the Ant King displays intellect and a distinctive personality.
As part of this personality, he is prideful, bloodthirsty, and constantly looking for an exciting fight. For its sake, right after his birth, he sought out the leader of the humans, hoping to engage in battle. However, if he didn’t deem his opponent strong, he showed a highly arrogant and dismissive attitude.
Due to the Ant King’s tremendous growth and strategic capability, surpassing most humans, he was a formidable adversary to both Korea’s and Japan’s top-ranked hunters. Even after his death, he continued to be significant in the series, though in a different form.
The Ant King’s Role in the Jeju Island Arc
The Jeju Island Arc of Solo Leveling saw a coalition between Japanese and Korean hunters infiltrating Jeju Island to face the rising threat of monstrous ants. With the objective of killing the Ant Queen and preventing the ants from reaching the mainland, renowned individuals such as Goto Ryuji, Baek Yoonho, Cha Hae-In, and more set out on their mission.
While they achieved their objective with ease through impressive abilities, a sudden twist was introduced to the mix. This was the appearance of the Ant King, the strongest monster on the island. His fearsome aura overpowered every hunter on the scene, shortly after which he brutally killed Min Byung-Gyu.
He also mercilessly beat down the other hunters around him before seeking out Goto Ryuji. Despite believing the Japanese hunter to be the strongest human there, the Ant King rapidly beheaded Ryuji and his allies. Right when the situation was looking bleak and beloved characters such as Cha Hae-In seemed to be on the edge of death, Jinwoo finally appeared.
Through his Shadow Swap ability, the protagonist turned up on the island, soon after which he fought the Ant King. Despite the Ant King being the superior species until then, he failed to gain the upper hand against Jinwoo’s shadow powers.
Right when he sensed that he would lose and tried escaping, Jinwoo crushed him with Ruler’s Authority and killed him with Mutilation. After the chaos ended, with Jinwoo saving the remaining hunters, he extracted the Ant King’s shadow.
This ended up becoming Beru, Jinwoo’s most beloved soldier. Unlike the Ant King, Beru is more comedic and immensely dedicated to Jinwoo. However, he can be equally spine-chilling if his master commands it.
The Ant King’s Strengths and Abilities
The Ant King’s powers may have been overshadowed by Jinwoo, but he is still stronger than most S-Rank Hunters. He effortlessly killed Japan’s top hunter and overpowered the strongest that Korea had to offer.
He possesses extremely formidable physicality, showcasing immense strength, speed, and durability. The Ant King is also able to fly and regenerate at an unparalleled pace. Most notably, he has the power of gluttony.
This allows the Ant King to absorb the abilities and knowledge of all those he consumes. As a result, he could use poison and healing magic and even learned speech a short time after his birth. His sinister aura can suffocate those in his presence, leaving little hope for most opponents.
Is Beru Sung Jinwoo’s Strongest Shadow Soldier?
As we have seen, after the Ant King’s defeat, he becomes a shadow soldier of the protagonist. Under the name of Beru, he is much stronger than his previous form, developing along with Jinwoo’s own growth.
Due to this, he is among Jinwoo’s most loyal soldiers, commanding other ants and even training his son. However, Beru is not Sung Jinwoo’s strongest soldier. While his strength is on par with Igris, Bellion’s powers have been honed for a considerable period of time.
Having served the original Shadow Monarch, Ashborn, Bellion is a Grand Marshal with mastery over weapons and enhanced senses. His strength is so great that he could easily defeat Beru during their sparring match. As a result, he is the strongest in Jinwoo’s shadow army.
