Palworld will continue to be buy-to-play and not become F2P or GaaS in the future, according to the developer in a recent X post on the official channel.
Palworld developer PocketPair recently took to the game’s official X channel to comment on the title’s future and the direction they wish to take. They mentioned that Palworld will remain a buy-to-play game, with neither F2P (free-to-play) nor GaaS (games as a service) being in the cards.
Speculation about the game’s future likely began after a recent ASCII Japan interview by Takuro Mizobe, where the Palworld creator discussed how they planned to extend the game’s lifespan while maintaining profitability.
Buy-to-Play Instead of F2P/Gaas: Palworld Dev Assures Fans About the Future
In a post on @Palworld_EN titled ‘Regarding the Future of Palworld,’ PocketPair stated:
“We are not changing our game’s business model, it will remain buy-to-play and not f2p or GaaS.”
The post further stated that the recent interview was conducted “several months ago” and that, back at that time, they were contemplating how they would move forward with the game. While they are still mulling over how the future will look like for the popular title, F2P/GaaS will not be the path that they are taking.
“Palworld was never designed with that model in mind, and it would require too much work to adapt the game at this point. Additionally, we are very aware that this just isn’t what our players want, and we always put our players first.”
The post continued to note that skins and DLC will be a part of Palworld’s future to support development. There will be further discussions with the community regarding the same at a later date. The tweet concluded by stating that PocketPair’s focus remains on “making Palworld the best game possible” for now.
Palworld released in early access in January 2024 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game had posted an impressive 2,101,867 concurrent Steam players a little after its initial launch. Its first major expansion, Sakurajima, came out later in June 2024, with a new island, Pals, and more content.
