Assassin’s Creed Shadows brings back the feature to pet dogs and cats. This mechanic was missing in several past Assassin’s Creed games. Although it never served a true purpose, fans loved such details because it’s fun to pet adorable animals in a game that is usually centered around revenge. Assassin’s Creed Mirage experimented with this feature after a long time, but Shadows finally brought it back.

Petting Dogs and Cats in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

If you want to get a pet in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, all you have to do is “pet” that dog or cat. It’s as easy as it sounds! The trick is to calmly walk up to an adorable animal you like. This is very important because if you rush towards them on horseback or on foot, you might startle them. However, if you approach them calmly, you will see a prompt on their heads that indicates you can Pet them. This prompt is Triangle on PlayStation by default and will be different for other platforms.

Since Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t let you kill wild animals for any useful resource, you can take them as pets! The process can be slightly different, though. Certain animals require you to make their Sumi-E Paintings out in the wild. These are activities scattered around the world of AC Shadows.

Whether you have drawn a unique animal through a Sumi-E Painting or have petted them, you will see a notification pop up on the right side of the screen. It will tell you the breed of the animal and that you have unlocked this animal as a pet. But what does that mean?

Assigning Pets in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The best part about petting the animals in this game is that you can actually save them in your Hideout! If you think building your own Hideout feels empty and pointless, you can now have some furry friends there to greet you and cheer you up.

The online community claims that there is a cap on how many animals you can keep in your Hideout but it seems to be so high that we haven’t hit it yet. Moreover, you can store more than one of each breed of animal usually. Some rare animals are exceptions to this, though. Follow the steps given below to add pets to your hideout:

• Visit your Hideout and interact with the Improve Hideout Table.
• Scroll through the Build menu and click on the tab with the animal logo. You will find all your unlocked pets here.
• Select an animal and decide where you wish to place them in the hideout. Unfortunately, you can’t place them indoors as of now.
• Head outdoors to find your pets waiting for you!
