Once Naoe gets clues from Tomiko, she starts her hunt for the masked samurai, whose ear was chopped off by Nagato. The hunt requires her to find a warrior monk named Kyonyo, who might have some clues regarding Nagato’s killers. The quest provides you with the following clues to find Kyonyo:

  • He is south of Sakai
  • He is west of Izumi Coast
  • He is at the Gansenji Temple

You can divide the Fatherless Monk mission into the following objectives:

  • Kill the enemies at the Gansenji Temple
  • Talk to Kyonyo

Once you arrive at the Gansenji Temple, you will hear the sound of an ongoing massacre. Make your way to the temple premises by climbing over its boundary. Your first objective requires you to eliminate all the enemies present there.

However, the enemies are not high-level, so eliminating them will not be a big challenge. Use Naoe’s stealth ability and hidden blade to strike the enemies down.

After defeating the enemies at the Gansenji Temple, Kyonyo will thank Naoe for the assistance and ask if she came to the temple because of the letter he wrote seeking help. To this, Naoe will reply that she came here because of her instinct. The monk further asks Naoe about the reason for her arrival. Afterward, a dialogue will open with the following choices:

  • I’ve come seeking vengeance.
  • I’m here to keep a promise.

Choosing either dialogue will not impact the outcome. Naoe will narrate her primary objective of finding clues about a man with a chopped ear. Kyonyo will identify the man as Wada Koretake, an officer of Oda Nobunaga.

During the conversation between Kyonyo and Naoe, their fellow warrior Yaya mentions that locating Koretake is difficult. This will open the following dialogue box that will be available for Naoe:

  • There is always hope.
  • Kyonyo hasn’t corrupted me.

Choose any of the options, and Yaya will give intel about Koretake. She will say that one of Koretake’s men is in Nanatsumatsu and can provide further details about Koretake. After a few more dialogues in the cutscene, the Fatherless Monk mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows comes to an end, and you will get the following rewards:

  • Uncommon Light Armor – Shrouded Shinobi Robes
  • Quest Item – Kyonyo’s Letter
