The Shinbakufu or Onryo is the group of 12 main antagonists in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Let’s take a look at who they are.

The Onryo or Shinbakufu are the templars of Assassin’s Creed Shadows that Naoe and Yasuke must stop. This group of 12 consists of enemies that were responsible for the death of Naoe’s father at the beginning of the game. At that moment, Naoe makes a promise to herself to retrieve the red box that was stolen by the Onryo when they killed her father.
The protagonist duo must stop them before they take control of the province. So, let’s take a deeper look at who these enemies are and what rewards you get for defeating them in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The Onryo, later known as the Shinbakufu, are the 12 main story bosses in the latest installment of the Assassin’s Creed series. Here’s everything you need to know about them:

1) Ido Yoshihiro (The Onryo Samurai)
Ido Yoshihiro is the first target among the Onryo in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The boss appears in the prologue as Naoe tries to retrieve her father’s stolen red box. On defeating this boss, Naoe gets back the prized possession.
As Naoe defeats the Samruai boss and tries to escape with her father, they are stopped by the Onryo / Shinbakufu leaders. This interaction ends with the gang killing the female protagonist’s father, leaving her wounded and helpless.
2) Wakasa (The Golden Teppo)
Wakasa, the second major boss, is the Onryo who shot Naoe with her Golden Teppo during their interaction in the prologue. Naoe has to attend a tea ceremony in Izumi Settsu where she comes across three women interested in handling a Teppo.
Among the three suspects, Wakasa turns out to be the Golden Teppo target. Players will get the Shinobi’s Fury Legendary Tanto on defeating this boss.
3) Wada Koretake (The Wounded)
Wada Koretaka is a Samurai who serves Oda Nobunaga, the Shogun. He pledged to erase the Ikko ikki resistance in Izumi Settsu. With the assistance of a few recruits, Naoe attacks the one-eared Samurai’s castle.
After killing all the snipers in the area, Naoe goes on to assassinate the wounded Samurai. On defeating this Onryo, players get rewarded with Death Whisperer Legendary Kusarigama.
4) Ise Sadaoki (The Fool)
Ise Sadaoki, also known as the Fool, is the son-in-law of Akachi Mitsuhide. Also a member of the Onryo, Sadaoki can be found in the Yamashiro region. Defeating this boss rewards you with the Steel Blossom Legendary Katana.
5) Akechi Kagemitsu (The Naginata)
Akechi Kagemitsu, the son-in-law of the Two-Faced Akechi Mitsuhide, is a member of the Onryo that takes the protagonists to Sakamoto Castle.
Here, you must infiltrate the castle and assassinate the Naginata. You will get the Sage’s Reach Legendary Naginata as a reward for killing the boss.
6) Lady Oichi (The Mourner)
Lady Oichi, also known as the Mourner, can be found in the Omi region. Yasuke gets romantically involved with the former and the protagonists venture out on quests in the region. Later, the duo finds out that Lady Oichi is none other than the Mourner, another member of the Onryo / Shinbakufu. Players will get the Myth Slayer Legendary Long Katana on finishing her quest line.
7) Ukita Naoie (The Noble)
Ukita Naoie is one of the Onryo targets in Assassin’s Creed Shadows who goes as far as staging the kidnapping of his son for his sinister reasons. The Noble sends Naoe to find his son and kill the kidnappers. Later, on discovering the true identity of the kidnapper, which is Ukita Naoie himself, the protagonist has to confront the Onryo. Completing his quest line rewards players with the Oni’s Fury legendary Amulet.
8) Bessho Harumasa (The Ox)
Naoe and Yasuke decide to deal with the Ox when they learn about his plans of building a legion of rebels in the Miki Castle. With the help of a few allies, the protagonists manage to send Naoe inside the castle, being hidden in a shipment. Naoe then helps others infiltrate the castle, which leads to Yasuke confronting Bessho Harumasa in a battle. Players will get rewarded with the Daybreak’s Fury Legendary Kanabo on defeating him.
9) Takeda Motoaki (The Fox)
The protagonists discover that the true identity behind the mask of the Fox is none other than Takeda Motoaki when Naoe recognizes a song being played by a master Biwa player. The Onryo target, Takeda Motoaki, can be found inside the Samurai Yashiki District. On defeating him, players get the Snakebite Legendary Katana as a reward.
10) Joken Hokkyo (The Wise)
Joken Hokkyo seems to be a peace-loving monk when Naoe crosses paths with him. However, the protagonists later discover that he is yet another member of the Onryo. The Wise is found to have a huge cult following of monks that players would have to fight or avoid in order to reach the main man. Defeating this boss rewards you with the Winds of War Legendary Kusarigama.
11) Akechi Mitsuhide (The Two-Faced)
Akechi Mitsuhide, the mastermind behind the Honnoki incident, can be found in the Oyamazaki village. The Two-Faced Onryo target betrays the trust of the protagonists in the early game, thus leading them to follow his trail and end things once and for all. Players receive the Dragon’s Fury Legendary Katana on defeating this boss.
Ashikaga Yoshiaki (The Horseman)
Ashikaga Yoshiaki, the final boss and the leader of the Onryo / Shinbakufu in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The revenge-bent Onryo who seeks to regain the title of Shogun once again takes the protagonists to the Kuramadera Temple. Finishing this quest line results in the Horseman returning the red box to Naoe. Players must remember that there is no additional reward for completing this quest other than story progression in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
