In the year 2025, crossplay is mandatory when it comes to PvP games. Players are spread across different platforms, and being able to play with them through crossplay has evolved far beyond being a mere convenience.

Battlefield 6, which is now in Open Beta, recognizes this and is incorporating crossplay into the mix. This means that regardless of the platform you purchase the game on, you will be able to play with your friends on other platforms.

There are tons of perks to this, with the most obvious being the social element of playing with your buddies. Apart from that, crossplay allows lobbies to fill up faster, significantly reducing queue times. Battlefield 6, however, has a slightly different take on crossplay. We will discuss this in detail below.

Crossplay is entirely optional in Battlefield 6. You can enable or disable it by toggling the setting at any time. Should you choose to opt for it, however, you have the option for “Preferred Crossplay.” This means that crossplay in Battlefield 6 is input-based, and the game will consider your input device when queueing for crossplay lobbies. The input devices here refer to the keyboard and mouse for PC and controllers for console.

If you’re using a controller for Battlefield 6, the game will prioritize queueing you with other controller players. If it can’t find them, only then will you be matched against keyboard and mouse players. This ensures your matches are balanced and that you never feel at a disadvantage going up against those aiming with a mouse.

Does Battlefield 6 Have Cross-Progression?

Whenever crossplay is discussed for any game, the topic of cross-progression naturally comes up. The Battlefield 6 developers have taken this into account and have confirmed that the game will feature cross-progression. This means you can play the game on one platform, unlock all the skins you need, and then switch to another platform while retaining those skins. We believe this will be managed through an EA account that will track your progression.
