Here are the best early-game legendary weapons and shields to look forward to in Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4, gameplay-wise, is phenomenal. The equipment grinding processes are more rewarding than ever. Not only do the enemies hit hard, but the weapons scale perfectly, allowing you to melt enemies pretty easily. If you grind throughout the early game phase and acquire the mentioned weapon and shields, you will have a pretty good time throughout the mid and end game. Without further ado, let’s get started.

3 Best Early Game Weapons To Farm in Borderlands 4

Early on, your goal is to find gear that punches way above its weight class. The weapons mentioned below offer incredible burst damage, utility, and are pretty easy to acquire.
1. Lead Balloon (Torgue Shotgun)

The lead balloon is pretty overpowered in the early game, and gunning down early game bosses like Splashzone and Slaj Mall is a breeze. The grinding process involves defeating the Spahzone in the story mode, and then, through Moxi’s encore, you will be able to farm him. It will cost you money to spawn him, but selling junk is a good way to compensate. Either way, defeating him gives you a chance to spawn the weapon.
In terms of its capabilities, the damage is AOE-based, and a single shot can take down hordes of enemies. It’s best suited for close-quarter combat and mid-range ones. For long-range ones, it’s not recommended.
As for the elemental buffs, look for one with fire damage or shock. You will be really lucky if you get it with Jakob’s parts, as the ricochet effect is extremely overpowered. You can pair this with the Torgue-licensed enchantment, and that will increase damage by 25% and double the AOE impact.
2. Complex Root (Sniper Rifle)

If you’ve played Borderlands 3, then you know where this is going. For starters, instead of a single bullet, this weapon fires a projectile that spawns a horizontal web of child shots, blanketing a vast area with damage. Not only is this helpful in ranged combat, but you can also spam it in mid-range or even close quarters. The way that the projectile behaves can sometimes help in clearing mobs charging at you.
As for elemental buffs, look for one with fire and shock combined, as it will be very helpful in gunning down various types of enemies. If you find one with Vladof enhancements, then you get a 30% chance to fire extra projectiles, making the weapon even more broken than before.
To get this weapon, you need to defeat the boss located in the Tipping Point Order bunker and must unlock it by visiting the empty vent area, picking up a projectile, and slamming it at the door. We won’t spoil too much of your fun, but get the idea.
3. Promised Streamer (Heavy Ordnance)

If you want a personal turret that never runs out of ammo, the Promised Streamer is for you. This weapon is so broken because its damage stacks relentlessly, creating a continuous stream of energy beams that melt enemies on contact. The gun is incredibly potent against farming bosses due to its damage mechanism. The Promised Streamer drops from the Oppressor boss during the main story campaign.
As for elemental buffs, the shock variant is the one to go for, as it cripples shields, letting you use other weapons for the kill.
2 Must-Have Early Game Shields in Borderlands 4

Shields are vital when it comes to surviving and not wasting money on resurrection. With the ones mentioned below, the difference would be monumental.
1. Fireworks Shield

As of now, this legendary shield is arguably the most broken piece of gear you can find early on. Upon breaking an enemy’s armor or defeating them, the Fireworks Shield unleashes a volley of auto-homing missiles that seek and destroy other nearby threats.
The missiles are so powerful that they can one-shot standard enemies on their own, allowing you to focus on the badass ones instead. At higher levels, you are basically a walking tank with auto-homing missiles. You can get shielded as a drop from Splashzone. Keep hitting Moxys’ encore, and you will eventually get the drop.
2. Onion Shield

After you complete the Null and Void quest and beat the Slaj Mall boss, you get a chance to get this shield. It grants you 2 seconds of immortality whenever one of its four armor segments breaks. Apart from that, there are no more benefits. We still suggest going for the Fireworks Shield, as offense is the best defense.
