Damage by radiation in Borderlands 4 can be dealt using either elemental weapons or skills. This element is usually sourced via looting or purchases from vending machines. It is a strong element that is especially effective against enemies using shields as well as flesh targets (enemies with a red health bar who are subject to incendiary element damage).

In this article, we will explore Radiation Damage and the different Vault users who can utilize this effect.

The radiation damage effect is dealt over time, inflicting continuous damage to both the target and the enemies within the spread radius. This is especially effective when used on enemies with lower health, as you can focus on other enemies with the assurance of their eventual demise. This unique effect will cause an explosion of a sort when an enemy dies from it. The effect will then spread to any enemy within a nearby radius, making it a good element for any AoE chaining combo damage.

One of the shortcomings of radiation damage is the slightly lower base damage it inflicts compared to other elements or weapons. While strong against flesh and shield opponents, the damage done against armored opponents is significantly less. The explosion damage will be three times the damage done by the status effect per second.

After the nearby enemies are affected, the damage is three-eighths of the damage suffered by the explosion. Another bonus of radiation damage is that those under its effect will contaminate any water bodies during their exposure. This will, in turn, create a radiation AoE in the pool for a short period of time and affect any enemy within range.

Here is a table for a better description of the type of enemies radiation damage will be most effective against:
