Borderlands 4 is easily one of the biggest releases of 2025, which is quite natural for a mainline title in the iconic FPS franchise. Gearbox Software experimented with something a little different via 2022’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. However, the game’s less-than-stellar reception and a somewhat rocky post-launch roadmap left a sour impression on fans. With the fourth mainline installment, Gearbox plans to not only course correct but also deliver the most ambitious Borderlands experience to date.

One of the biggest improvements the game offers is in its presentation. Surprisingly enough, with Borderlands 4, Gearbox is finally making a move to Unreal Engine 5.

As a result, the new title comes with rather hefty system specifications. Here’s everything you need to know about Borderlands 4’s PC system requirements, file size, and more.

Here are the official PC system requirements for Borderlands 4:

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 / Windows 11
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-9700 / AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
  • Storage: 100 GB available space
  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 / Windows 11
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-12700 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Memory: 32 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 / AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • Storage: 100 GB available space

Unlike Borderlands 3, Borderlands 4 heavily relies on ray tracing for its lighting and global illumination. As a result, the game uses significantly more VRAM than its predecessor. Furthermore, due to the game’s open-world nature, Borderlands 4 is also quite heavy on system memory. Surprisingly enough, the game’s CPU requirements are not as outrageous as its GPU and RAM specifications. As long as you have a modern 6C/12T CPU, you should be able to get stable 60 fps in the latest Borderlands.

Borderlands 4 File Size

Unlike Borderlands 3, which took up roughly 40 GB of storage (for the base game), Borderlands 4 requires 100 GB of SSD space. This falls perfectly in line with most Unreal Engine 5 titles. There are some outliers like Silent Hill 2 Remake, Lords of the Fallen (2023), and others, which are UE5 games with less than 50 GB of file size.

However, most UE5 titles often exceed the 100 GB mark. Take 2023’s Black Myth Wukong, for instance, which took up roughly 130 GB of storage despite being a linear action-adventure game. In contrast, Borderlands 4 is a fully-fledged open world. As such, it’s no wonder it takes up 100 GB of SSD space.
