Complete Borderlands 4’s The Importance of Being Furnished side mission by finding all the quest items and assembling the chair.
‘The Importance of Being Furnished’ emerges as a side mission in Borderlands 4 involving an “artist” and the lost assembly instructions for his masterpiece in the making—a chair. A vexed connoisseur of assembled furniture, Wrenching Allen haughtily instructs you to fetch the lost assembly instructions for his chair. Although the quest may seem frustrating or demeaning at first, it has hilarious moments and a satisfying choice for you to make at the end.
Borderlands 4: The Importance of Being Furnished Location
‘The Importance of Being Furnished’ becomes available following the 4th main story mission, ‘A Lot to Process.’ Begin the quest by speaking with Wrenching Allen in the Belton’s Bore faction town within The Low Leys. If you don’t come across the quest giver initially, ‘The Importance of Being Furnished’ becomes marked on your map following the 11th main mission, ‘Shadow of the Mountain.’

Find Assembly Instructions
Search Trash Cans
After speaking with Wrenching Allen, jump and glide to the platform on the opposite (northeast) side of the cavern. There, search the trash cans around the vending machines. Once you’ve gone through a few trash cans, Allen will ask you to delve into the laundry.
Search Laundry
Head to the opposite side (northwest) of the same platform, in the direction the vending machines face. Climb up the stairs and search all the washing machines.
Search Grill
Travel northwest out of the faction town to find the grill spot on the left side of the road. A red umbrella and metal chairs mark the site. After you’ve searched the grills, kill the “art critics” emerging from the cave above.
Find Chair Pieces
Move back toward the faction town while collecting all five pieces of the chair. Whenever you get close to a chair piece and scan, a blue marker highlights it.
- The first piece is on the right side of the Belton’s Bore faction town’s gate, as you approach the waypoint at the area’s entrance.
- Find the second piece past the bridge ahead, lying on the right side by a few boxes and a barrel.
- The third piece is past the save checkpoint on the right, leaning on a crate next to the pillar.
- Locate the fourth piece below the vending machines’ platform, lying on the ground in front of a locker.
- Climb up to the vending machines area and run to the stairs on the platform’s east end. You will find the last piece at the top of the stairs.

Sell or Destroy the Chair
Return to Wrenching Allen and interact with the green outline of a chair in front of his workbench to build the chair. Despite your shoddy craftsmanship, the assembled “chair” captivates Wrenching Allen. He asks you to either sell it to him or destroy it to preserve it as a memory. Choosing either option ensures the completion of ‘The Importance of Being Furnished’ and provides you with the same mission reward.
